This article got me looking around, and I'd say the 120GB Zune w/ WiFi is the best value on the market right now. Newegg has the red one for $200 delivered until 6/1, and I'm sorely tempted to clicky-click, even though I should have higher priorities than replacing my iPod

Gizmodo has some more pictures of the Zune HD, as well as hands-on video of it in action.

It looks like it uses UI similar to WM 6.5, and I personally disliked the scrolling WM 6.5 (and hated the messy honeycomb icon placement,) but Gizmodo likes it better than the iPod.

There are various ways to remedy contrast under sunlight - see this article on ambient light sensors and OLED

Also, Transparent OLED is apparently excellent under bright sunlight -see this explanation.

The argument for less eye strain resulting from OLED, is based on the absence of fluorescent backlighting in OLED.
