All of you know that I'm not English, not American and definitely NOT Canadian. I'm still learning English. In fact, because of that I have an advantage of memory freshness to the task.
This is how I'm told it should be spelled. The word pair is unvariable, always single. Don't do that to yourself, I like you unscathed. That pronunciation cracks me up too. The first time I heard it without comprehending I felt totally bewildered. |

If I'm late here it's because I'm coming from far away.
I am French and I can tell you all about it. You must pronounce "boo..ééé" and write "bouée" You must pronouce "ké" and write "quai". I hope this clears up some confusion. ![]() |

Down 'ere in Oz we pronounce "buoy" as "shark net", and "quay" as "poncy yacht club". For both "your" and "you're" we say "ya" (with a silent "a", vowels not sitting well with us mostly).
Funniest thing I heard recently was a Frenchman (brother-out-law) speaking Australian English while trying to imitate a character from a Kiwi TV series (Munter, from Outrageous Fortune, for anyone who cares). It was choice, bro'. Cheers, Marc PS. The first paragraph is a lie. The second is true though - my b-o-l's sure a funny bugger. |

Here's one for all our non-British friends: how do you pronounce the name "Menzies"? No Brits allowed to answer!

I have no clue. How about men-zees with stress on the first syllable)? Hmmm, may I have a place of origin, please? It's clearly not British since it contains a "z". (kidding) (off to find origin, meaning, etc.)
