That explains why so little has been explained up to now -- the author is assuming we know it already. In spite of that, I think it's brilliant. However, I am now considering stopping until I can source the others... Let me do that a few more times... | |

I'm reading Blood Bound, book 2 in the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. Good thing I'm reading it in the morning, because there was one scene that would have totally freaked me out at night.

Just finished 'King of Lies' by John Hart. Not as action packed as a Stu Woods or Vince Flynn and lots of introspection. But good enough I'm going to read the next one.

Since my last post here I have just about finished up the Chaos Chronicles... _Infinite Sea_ was good. It was much more normal than the obscure "bajoom" that they dealt with in the previous one. I am just about finished with _Sunborn_. What's next, I don't know. Probably _Max_ by James Patterson. It is the 5th book in the Maximum Ride series. It is geared towards younger readers but I like them. I'm sure that will go fast. After that, I have wanted to read _Time Travelers Wife_ for a while and keep not getting to it. Off to read some more. BOb |

Sadly, I finally finished A Fire Upon the Deep, even though I read it extra slowly and savored every nuance. It really was just as amazing as I remembered. If for no other reason, I'm glad to have large fonts and the ability to read this book again. Now zipping through Brandon Sanderson's Firstborn, a freebie from Tor.com. It's been just "eh" so far, nothing really unique. Of course, coming off A Fire Upon the Deep, anything would seem mundane. Did I mention that I really really really like the book? |

I'm reading (and getting close to finishing), a fun-filled Shell Scott detective novel, by Richard S. Prather. I love the political incorrectness in these novels and the roller-coaster ride that Prather gives his readers. It's pure pap and they're fun to read, so much so that I bought EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM, and from Fictionwise. If you like detective novels and you don't mind a different mind-set different from today's, then I'd give one of these Shell Scott mystery novels a try. I think they're something like $3.83 at the moment from Fictionwise. (Normally, I think they're $8.99; right now, everything's on sale at that site.) Don |
