The conversion options haven't changed in quite a while. They will change completely for the 0.6 series, but they should be stable for the 0.5 series. WHat changes are you referring to?

Lol, good to know. I was afraid of updating to the newest version in case it broke the scripts I have. Question, is the design for the new ebook conversion system done and you're just implementing it in source code or are you still doing some revisions? I'm just curious what conversion options are available in the new system.

It's done and fully implemented. The basic idea is to consolidate all fomat neutral code into one place and move all format specific stuff into plugins. Makes adding new formats much easier among other benefits. There should be no significant dimunition in functionality between 0.5 and 0.6 and t should become significantly easier to produce output in multiple formats with mostly the same options

Wonderful Tool

hi i m using any2epub for creating epub...it is nicely created using these tool...but how can we set top and bottom page margin for each page....

Then all conversion/news fetching operations will result in EPUB files. The command line interface is in the commands: any2epub, comic2epub and feeds2epub.

To see usage information, run the commands without any arguments. I've tested them on a number of ebooks and feeds in avarious different input formats, and they should be ready for more general testing now. So throw your ebooks at them and report any bugs here.

For e.g.
Code:
any2epub file.lit
The only major missing feature is support for font size rationalization and embedding fonts.

Technical note:

For those of you that run epubcheck on the output files, you may get warnings/errors for files in the content/ subdirectory. This is because html2epub doesn't fully convert input files into valid XHTML 1.1 (doing so would likely lead to information loss and is uneccessary because any epub reading software that insists on valid XHTML 1.1 is going to be a miserable failure). However, if you feed html2epub valid XHTML 1.1, then it should output valid XHTML as well.

You can't. Most EPUB readers don't have support for headers and footers

This is just a quick question - I know calibre used pdftohtml to do the heavylifting, which is fine, but it doesn't allow for the extraction of tables of svg images, both of which I would like. So, is there another format I could convert the pdf to and then to epub that would keep the images?
Thanks.

Haven't tested myself, but this is said to do the trick: HERE

Feature List (excerpt):
- Extract tables to Excel
- Replicates the PDF page layout including tables
- Enhanced table conversion in Microsoft Word
- Converts vector graphics to embedded, editable vector objects in Word

Hmm, IIRC this is because at the time I wrote this code ADE didn't support setting top and bottom margins via @page rules. That may have changed now, I'll have to check. Open a ticket and I'll look into it when I get time

Since you are on XP, you could download PowerShell. It can work with Unicode.

Probably won't work, unless I can get PHP to use PowerShell instead of the one Windows uses when it does shell_exec();

Conversion bug, epub picking up wrong cover

It's been a couple of weeks since I last did any conversions, but I just ran a couple of html files through to convert to epub, and a problem I mentioned a few Calibre versions back is still happening: the new conversions are picking up the cover from a different book which I purchased a couple of months ago.

Attached is a sample--a Robt Sheckley story, which came out with the cover of a Cordwainer Smith novel. As far as I can recall, I never did any conversions on the Smith book, though I did add it to Calibre in both .prc and .lrf format.

A side issue: I added the Sheckley html file to Calibre in one action along with some others (using the Add Books button). One of the other files was a Heinlein story. When I first looked at the Sheckley epub in the Calibre Viewer, I found that it not only had the wrong cover, it had the wrong story! The Heinlein story had been imported under both names. I fixed that by deleting, then adding back, from within the edit-metadata window.

Oh--I was using Calibre 5.13.
Attached Files
File Type: zip Hunting Problem - Robert Sheckley.zip (110.1 KB, 198 views)
File Type: epub Hunting Problem - Robert Sheckley.epub (103.2 KB, 199 views)
