Thumbs up Tapwave

Hey,

Been away for a while...too long. Need to catch up my reading of palm related articles and such. Came upon an interesting tidbit today regarding a device called the tapwave. This seems like an interesting device that resembles the old gameboy advance but is a palm licensed handheld. It is souped up for gaming capability. I was shocked. Don't know if it's Mac compatible but still looks cool.

Yeah, the zodiac looks really hot. I almost regret getting a T|T2 last month, instead of holding out for this. The specs are friggin incredible, especialy on the $400 one (128MB RAM!! ZWTF)

it looks hot hot hot, although it doesn't look very easy to operate one-handed.

For everyone's drooling pleasure, here are the specs:

200 MHz Motorola ARM9 processor
320X480 3.8" hi-res screen with virtual graffiti
ATI Imageon 3D Graphics accelerator
32MB Ram in $300 model, 128MB in $400 model
2 (!) SDIO slots for memory cards, or SDIO devices
Dual lithium batteries for 16-hour (!!) life
Bluetooth
Stereo sound
Analog joystick/navigator
Trigger Buttons

whoa.

Also, there's a load of 3p developers in line to release games for this thing. Games will ship on their own SD cards, and at ship date, there will be Tony Hawk, Neverwinter Nights, SpyHunter, Doom II, and a few more.

woah.

waoh.

It is significantly larger than my Sony615, and that rules it out for me. But then I just don't play games much either. radleyp

Radleyp,
I think this thing is not only useful for games. You can run any Palm app on it, so also iSilo for instance. Think about it: It has a 5.7inch screen!!!!!

I think that's great, but it's just too big for my pocket, and that's where my PDA lives when it's not in use. Just look at the specs. There are always compromises to be made, but this is one I will not make. I won't even use a Sony clamshell, though it has a bigger and brighter screen than mine. If I am going to have to carry the unit in my hands, then I would rather use a notebook. radleyp

Yes I also dont like Sony's clamshell design... currently I even favor a Tungsten to a Sony. I would buy the Zodiac not as a PDA to carry around with me every day. But for instance as a book reader on a long flight it seems wonderful. The price is ok too. Sometimes a notebook is too big to be carried around, but a Zodiac would still work in those occasions. Heh, I have a girlfriend with a big handbag... so why should I worry about size?

Very good point. I bet it would be a terrific ebook reader, certainly better (and no bigger) than the Franklin ebook reader. radleyp

Alexander: 5.7" is the Length, not the size of the screen. Of course, it's quite a bit bigger than the Tungsten I'm used to, and I'm not sure I'd want to carry it with me everywhere in my pocket at that size...

Anyway, I just got my T2 about a month ago, and I'm not in the market for a new palm just yet ^_________^

If I were, this would probably be near the top of my list. the 128 MB RAM is the *drool* for me. I've already almost filled the 32MB on my T2, although I'm sure I could shuffle stuff off to my card if I needed to.

Battery Life and other issues.

Hey,

I think the battery life has something to do with the way that the system is used. I hope that the battery life is while playing the games and not only using memo pad and isilo etc. Also I will not buy the tapwave if it doesn't have mac support. Tapwave needs to broaden their market. I will no buy a pc just to get a tapwave.
