Ricky -- take care of yourself, get some rest (no more climbing ladders), and call in a friend to help. Thinking of you...

Ok just remember there are 1001 books you must read so now is a good time to read them, laying on the couch, with feet up and many many slaves attending you.

Oh and we expect a book report on each one

(now just go look after yourself ok?)

I'm an emergency medical technician and I can only agree to this statement. Oh and your doc will be mad at you for waiting so long - treatment after a heart attack is very time sensitive... (No, that is not an excuse to refuse going to a doc). And I am absolutely sure that whatever doc or medic is available in this board will agree too...

Thanks for all the kind thoughts, however, it's going on 38 hours since the episode, and yes, self diagnosed, just like my stroke was all those many years ago ... and really, what a waste of time going to the doctor was for that. They just confirmed what I already told them, and then (something like three days later) declared it an "emergency."

We don't have any real emergency services out here. The closest "ER" is a 45 minute drive away, and there are no handy dandy first response paramedics. Not to mention, that I have no insurance (considered "uninsurable" and no time to sit in a hospital while they check my CPK and SGOT. Say, "oh, you had a mild heart attack" and charge me a zillion dollars.)

I'm starting to paint the living room today, so ... sorry, but back on the ladder I go. The people I really like and trust are all deathly allergic to cats, and many of the work day jobs. So, that's not really an option.

However, as soon as I move the large bookcase and the piano (again, so I can paint behind it), the worst of the heavy stuff will be done. I'm on track to get this stupid inspection behind me so I can relax a little.

why are you being inspected?

is it possible it was an anxiety attack?

I sperated the muscles in my chest wall from my ribs once and was absolutely certain I was having a massive heart attack.

you are really doing yourself no favors by being stubborn and damn the torpedos full speed ahead.

So........isn't a 'mild' heart attack usually a precursor to a major one? IF you don't get proper treatment and proper meds?

WTF is so important about painting and moving a bookcase at this particular time?

Have you made a will?

I am being inspected because the idiots at the City of Horseshoe Bay insist on inspecting my house twice a year -- to make sure that my housekeeping is up to their "standards" and that my cats and dogs are all healthy.

No, it wasn't an anxiety attack, I've had those all my life, and this was something quite different. I recognized what it was immediately, but also did a quick assessment of the medications that I had on hand that would probably get me through it.

Anxiety attacks (for me anyway) don't cause an actual stabbing pain in my chest. They do make my heart beat really fast, but that's about it.

My symptoms were quite classic for a mild heart attack. However, given my history of prior CVA, and my current blood pressure problems, I know exactly what the treatment is going to be, and I'm already doing all of that. I must have spent close to 15 years in medicine before I went to law school, so I do have a good idea of what's going on inside my body most of the time.

I am taking the proper meds. However, I was off my blood pressure medication for several days because the doctor's office didn't feel like calling in a refill .... just love life here out in the sticks.

The City of HSB inspection is on May 27th. By that time, the entire house must be perfect, or I won't pass my inspection. The house got pretty damn messy during the period right after the accident (the one with the 18 wheeler), so there is a LOT to do, and not much time in which to do it.

I do a lot of work in estate planning, so of course I DON"T have a will. I'm still debating who I want to leave all my stuff to. I change my mind about every seven minutes on that topic.

I really should set up a trust for the cats and dogs, rather than have a will. I think I would rather my assets be used to take care of them ....

Ricky, I know you're probably getting frustrated with all of us yelling at you, even though we do mean it with the best intentions. That being said, however: Will you at LEAST find someone to check up on you every day? That way, if you're laying in the floor dying from a heart attack/stroke/overwork someone will find you soon. And teach them to get in touch with us here at MR so we know to send good vibes, etc.

No, just anyone who has more than four pets and is truthful about having more than four pets. If we don't pass our inspections, then they get to euthanize our pets. It's a law that passed after I moved here. Really, had I known that the people around here were that idiotic, I never in a million years would have moved here.

Sadly, there is no one within several hours drive who would bother. I check up on my elderly neighbors as often as I can, but there isn't anyone to check up on me .... except for my neighbor Teresa who usually comes by on the weekends to run my doggies.

You know, that reminds me of the time I tried to flip my king sized mattress all by myself. Somehow it managed to fall on top of me, and I lay there for several hours in a mattress sandwich until I finally wiggled out.

The simple fact is, for those of us who choose to live alone and out in the country, the chances are pretty good that no one is going to find the body until someone from the utility department comes by to cut off the power and detects the smell of your rotting corpse (which in my case will be mostly eaten by cats after they run out of dry food).

Such is life.
