As I posted earlier, previously donwloaded books don't seem to have been changed remotely.

Thanks to those who've explained how to regain TTS on amazon books. My question is how do we do it on those topaz books? Hackers are you guys? Topaz is a nasty way to take away tts, and I've got a few books in that format. I'm forming a tutorial based on answers I get from you all...
I plan to host this tutorial in a place safe for future readers. So your help is appreciated. PM me with info |

I also have heard anecdotally that one or more publishers actually had the presence of mind to include language in their Amazon ebook contracts that specifically referenced their TTS rights, so Amazon's "caving" may actually have been more an expression of legal pragmatism than anything else. El |

As it seems the case that authors can opt out, I'm going to stick with boycotting the authors rather than the entire publisher (as to not punish those who opt out or choose not to do so.)
But yes, we should all be able to use it. If nothing else than because that's how the device was marketed! |

If you open a book with a 404 item in an editor and change 404 to for example 414 will TTS work then?

If a simple binary editor can trivially fix this then nobody can complain about mobi2mobi (I added a flag --allowtts to mobi2mobi...). |

At this point Random House authors (the only publisher that has actually disabled TTS, afaik) do NOT yet have the option of allowing or disallowing TTS. Random House apparently hopes to enable this in the future, but they haven't at this time. It's unclear why some RH books have TTS and some don't, but it's not the author's individual decision.
