Marking books as read!

I have hundreds of books in my Calibre Library and I would like to mark the ones that I have already read. I can create a column called READ but no matter how I try to set something up, it always takes 4 or 5 mouse or keyboard clicks to mark a book as read. Quite a pain if you need to edit several hundred entries.

I've used this JobSpy [optional plugin]-Configuration->feature as and when needed:

The shortcuts themselves are in Preferences->Shortcuts

You could probably do it with the Action Chains plugin, but I don't use that plugin.

The JobSpy plugin developer is no longer active.

Do you use Kobo Utilities to keep track of your reading position? If you do, it's very easy to do what you want.

You can select multiple books, e to edit metadata, "Custom metadata" tab and voila!
(Using 9.16 but should work with earlier versions.)

I use a #percentread (integer/floating-point number) and then #readstatus is composite based on that. If you use Kobo, Kobo Utilities can autofill former.
