Hello,
After using Pandoc to turn a web page into an EPUB… Code:
pandoc -f html -t epub3 --toc --epub-title-page=false --metadata=title="My Title" --metadata=author="My Author" -o output.epub https://www.acme.com While the ToC is displayed in Sigil after using Tools > Table Of Contents > Generate Table Of Contents, it doesn't in either SumatraPDF or my Kobo. What am I doing wrong? Thank you. Last edited by Shohreh; Today at 01:55 PM. |

You have created an Epub2 whose TOC is stored in the ncx xml file. The reader normally has a toc tool or menu that reads it.
If you want, you can use Sigil to create an HTML Toc as well. Or create an epub 3 whose TOC is stored in a nav xhtml document which is user viewable by default. |

Thanks for the info.
It worked by telling Pandoc to save it as epub2, and then adding the ToC in Sigil. I don't know if the problem lies in the Kobo Clara or my wrongly using Sigil. Code:
pandoc -f html -t epub2 --toc --epub-title-page=false --metadata=title="My Title" --metadata=author="My Author" -o output.epub https://www.acme.com |

If you're testing on devices/apps that don't officially support epub3, you may need to use Sigil to manually create an ncx from the nav document for backward compatibility with epub2 readers. For conversion/creation purposes, the "Toc" in an epub3 is the NAV document. In epub2, it's the NCX.
