I find it morally reprehensible for an author to use AI to write his/her book, or to make a promotional post ANYWHERE using AI to substitute for one's own creativity.

And it's damned lazy, to boot.

When I put my mind and writing skills to write a book, you can be sure that I am the author of my own project.

How do I add my name to this project (list), if one is an indie author?

I am proud to display/support the Made Without AI Badge slogan and can attest to the fact that every post or ebook - of everything I have written - was written by me. My name is Don Broyles.

Is it OK in your opinion to use AI to create the cover as long as the book itself is not written using AI?

I've experimented with that, but I was personally disappointed. On my current Mannequin book, I purchased a cover.

For me, it's the writing of a book, or a promotion for a book, both of which I find Detestable.

Remember, these are just my opinions.

Let me state this with clarity: I've never used AI to write any PART of one of my books. Promotional material, too, I always write.

Yes, it may be lazy to use LLMs but for me it's the end product that counts. And books, literature or whatever you may call it, are after all just products someone wants to sell. If I like the product I really don't mind how it was created. If I don't like it I also don't mind if it's AI-created or just a human-made pipe dream. There are so many badly written and meaningless books out there from the beginning humans began to wrote.

Personally, as a reader, I will not read an author who deliberately and knowingly uses generative AI in any part of their book creation, design, or promotion. That includes covers.

GenAI was built by stealing from artists and writers, so whether you "write" the book with AI or "create" a cover from AI, it's still based off stolen work. Not to mention the environmental impacts of using GenAI.

I think most writers use spell check and autocomplete and wouldn't consider that AI, although it technically is (LLMs are just superpowered autocomplete)

I do think the biggest problem with AI is that it has increased the productivity of garbage and fakes. One of the big problems with the information age was that there was too much information to shift through, this has gotten worse. I care more about quality than process, at least with AI, but I have little confidence in AI to produce quality.

I am surprised that so many are worried about creators being robbed by AI, but people are rather silent on copyright infringement.

Isn't that the same thing? Copyright law exists, at least in theory, to ensure creators can profit from their work.
