If this is what Kobo does for the future, I'll say good bye to Kobo.
Well, the 6.0 update is literally the same as recent Tolino software. Depending on the hardware, it decides whether to show the Tolino UI/UX or Kobo UI/UX.

IMO it's just their reader being poorly architected, really, on this new Qt6-based OS. It sucks. Kobo still wins for me because they produce faster hardware than PocketBook, otherwise I personally would consider switching knowing what's coming, assuming they don't fix it. But the fact that I can spin up a faster e-reader app in ~8 weeks says a lot.

I can't imagine the general public's reaction when this actually becomes the stable version. From what I've seen so far it's been brutal online with people who accidentally opted into the beta and HATED how slow things are now.

My device actually is a Tolino and I'm using the Kobo UI option (it can be found in the developer menu).
I tried 4.x, which is a lot faster, but in some ways it felt like a step backwards. Teng has a couple of features that are missing from the Kepub renderer.
Having to rename files to use the Kepub renderer was really annoying–in 5.x/6 I can simply choose from the developer menu if i want to use Teng or RMSDK for sideloaded books.

I haven't used fw 5.x/6.x. Please could you elaborate on this?

I supports the transform property and probably a couple of others I haven't looked deeper into. I remember it was able to render some fancy stuff accurately, which the Kepub renderer couldn't.

Do you have a view on how much progress they've made with Teng since they first released it (2.5 years ago ???).
