What's your distro/desktop? It works just fine for me on Arch with Cinnamon with the same 2.8.1 AppImage. Does there happen to be a long delay after clicking OK (on the color dialog) before control is finally returned to Sigil?

There is no delay after clicking OK - it seems instant. No problem there. And for my practical use of this utility, communications between plugin and clipboard are irrelevant. This isn't the first time I've had a problem on my new setup compared with other users. In early summer, I went for a new GigaByte motherboard with, of course, a newer faster processor and found that it wouldn't display on my setup. I was back and forth with my local computer shop, where it displayed normally. The pc guy gave me a new hdmi cable which worked fine in his shop but wouldn't give a display on my (recent) Iiyama screen. I had to add a graphics card to get a display working 'chez moi'. Previously, I had just relied on the old motherboard's graphics capability and I expected a newer motherboard to be even better. I don't do anything graphics heavy, like gaming or big videos. But the brand new motherboard didn't like something in my setup at home although trhe box worked fine in the computer guy's workshop. So I would just put this hiccup with QtColorPicker as a (yet another) dedicated gremlin in my linux. It'll probably not be too long before I abandon UbuntuStudio for another distro - but you know what inertia is. |

It could still be a KDE thing. If the plugin can't even read the system clipboard from a cli script, that's very likely the problem. Using Qt to read/write from the clipboard is terribly finicky on Linux to begin with. Qt's clipboard utilities are designed to be used from a gui event loop. Where user interaction (I.e. button presses) are used to insert and read entirely within the GUI/QApplication event loop. And even then it's problematic when the read/setText requests are too close to the beginning/end of the QApplication loop. Because the events are often asynchronous, they can be completely missed.
The bottom line is that I'm not certain this can be dismissed as a "just my system" kind of thing. |
