Krelløy by Michal Polgár is $1 at Amazon (exclusive)

I've had this one on my watchlist for a bit. At least since I took a trip to Norway earlier this year.

A remote Arctic island off northern Norway. A fog that moves against the wind, and one mountain peak it will not touch.

When the supply ship unloads at the isolated fishing community of Krelløy, its crew won’t say why this run is the last. Forty-seven souls are cut off from the mainland, and from the world they once knew.

What begins as an eerie weather anomaly stops looking like weather the day a sound comes from every direction at once.

Stefan, a Slovak expatriate working at the local fish processing plant, and his wife Linnet, a Kenyan nurse who crossed continents for love, try to hold on to each other as their community fractures and their Arctic home turns alien around them. Neighbors vanish into the fog. Those who stay begin to change. The only question left is what it means to remain yourself when the world itself is forgetting how to be.

A literary novel of cosmic and body horror, KRELLØY is a love story at the end of the world.

Self-published. Formatting doesn't look professional (straight quotes, for example, are used instead of smart quotes). Just an FYI for the pedantic people like me who are wary of self-published works.

I'll fix those on my copy. I'm one of those pedantic people

Self-published.

Thanks. I didn't catch that. Explains why it's Amazon exclusive.

I forget where I first heard of the book. Maybe I saw it when I was in Norway?

Stephen King's The Shining is on sale for $2.99 in the USA. I suspect it was on sale all day at the usual haunts, but right now only Amazon, so the deal will likely end in 3 hrs.

Incarnate by Ramsey Campbell is $1 at Amazon and Kobo. There was a Netflix adaptation of this one, but I remember thinking it wasn't as good as the story it was telling, if that makes sense.

A new edition of this classic exploration of malevolent dreams and monstrous forces, from the master of horror.

“The dreams are getting stronger,” Guilda Kent said. “My dreams and everyone else’s. We’ve allowed them to grow stronger by trying to explain them away, don’t you understand? Dreaming isn’t a state of mind, but we scientists have lulled people into thinking it is. It isn’t a state of mind, it’s a state of being. The dream place, the collective unconscious… I call it the dream thing. It’s alive, I’m sure it is. It wants to feed on what we call reality, feed on it so it can take its place. We’ve given it that strength, we even helped it gain a hold. That time at Oxford let it break through…”

Five people take part in a study of precognitive dreaming, but the future they all dream of is a nightmare. Eleven years later, the dream creature they released creeps into all their lives in shapes they don’t realise are dreams. If it brings the five together again, far worse will be loosed on the world. Can Molly Wolfe, one of the dreamers, track down everyone involved in time to stop it, or is her search doomed to help it achieve its inhuman aim? Is she too unaware of the way the dream creature has insinuated itself into her life?

Whisperwood by Alex Woodroe is $1 on Amazon and Kobo. The story sounds terrific, though I am not familiar with the author. I picked it up last time it was on sale.

A journey into the wild woods with a character who just needs a break—and the terrible things that stare back at her.

When curious nomad Anna hears about Whisperwood, a town that’s not on any maps, that nobody goes to, and nobody comes from, she sees an opportunity to hide from her violent witch-hunting ex.

But not everything is peaceful in the isolated community. A vanishing town, a gruesome funeral rite, an emergency field surgery—these surprises and more test Anna's resolve.

Prevented from leaving the frontier settlement by folk magic she doesn’t understand, Anna lends helping hands everywhere she can, but quickly finds that investigating the forest too closely could end up being the last thing she does.
