As for the clipboard itself, adding a Pyperclip would probably solve the problem.

I should be able to fix it for all platforms. I'll probably need to subclass QColorDialog so I can override the accept/reject routines (as well as force Qt's cross-platform color chooser rather than Linux and macOS built-in ones). Stay tuned.

If only there was a box where a colour name i.e. rebeccapurple could be typed...

For a different program, that was a request for it's colour picker which the creator responded to by suggesting just typing the name in the CSS if you wanted a named colour.

I think I'm close to having something that will work for both Linux and Windows (and hopefully macOS). Writing stuff to the system clipboard on Linux with Qt is a huge pain in the butt. It's mostly intended to work from within a gui MainWindow where buttons will be used to copy/paste the clipboard content while the gui continues to run. Linux requires a running QApplication event loop to manipulate the system clipboard, while Windows does not.

I think I have it working on Windows and Linux. New icon, custom colors are preserved to and from preferences.

New: It now works with color names as well – you can have "red" or "rebeccapurple" in your clipboard, and the palette will display the correct color. The idea was adapted from a C# macro for ClipboardFusion: https://www.clipboardfusion.com/Macr...6-739ff1fab8ba

A small improvement idea: Make the window resizeable, so one can select color more precisely.

Both v0.1.2 and v0.1.3 seem to work as advertised on my MacBook. I'll check linux and windows later when I'm back home.

The 'pick screen color' tool works nicely.

If the color code or name is already on the system clipboard, using the QtColorPicker plugin would seem to be redundant.

But all things considered, it's nice to have this facility 'in house' even if it's only needed occasionally.

With the ability to see the results of color changes/edits/pastes in Preview when editing css, I find the whole thing a bit redundant myself. But if it satisfies a niche need, I'm happy to help provide a plugin that meets that need.

Turns out making the widget resizable is fairly simple. However... none of the widgets on the dialog will grow with the dialog, so it's fairly pointless.

How sad, most other software with this kind of color picking window can resize though.

Most other software is OS specific and not using a cross-platform convenience utility.

Back home and I tried the QtColorPicker 0.1.3 on my linux and W11 boxes.

On Linux (using Sigil-2.8.1-x86_64.AppImage) there is no automatic communication between the system clipboard andd the plugin (in either direction). But of course defining the color in the plugin and copy/paste from the plugin to the CSS works just fine and is completely adequate.

In W11, using one of the latest test builds from DNSB for Sigil 2.8.5, the plugin communicates well with the system clipboard in both directions. But in reality, it's just as quick to copy/paste from the plugin's html color description as it is to hit the 'ok' button.

Still, it's nice to have this little utility in house.
