The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevski
A New Translation by Michael R. Katz
$2.99 at Amazon, Kobo

A monumental new translation—the first in more than twenty years—of Russia’s greatest family drama, rendered with all the passion, humor, and soul of the original.

"Lively, fast-flowing.... the voiciest translation of the novel thus far. [Katz] writes at the fever pitch of speech, unleashing the speed and the chaos of the original." —Jennifer Wilson, The New Yorker

"In Michael R. Katz’s new translation, Dostoevsky’s irony is more noticeable than in previous English language versions, which tended to muffle the humor. Katz’s rendering in plain, contemporary English sets the Russian author’s satire in high relief . . . The paradoxical nature of personal and social life, marked by outbursts of kindness and destruction and long stretches of just muddling along, has seldom been as brilliantly described." —David Luhrssen, Shepherd Express

Spoiler:

As rebellion ignites across the American colonies, a new kind of warrior takes to the seas: the Yankee privateer.

Fast, daring, and hungry for prize money, they strike at British commerce with cannon and cutlass, risking everything for glory - and profit.

At the forefront stand the Markham brothers: Jehu, Josiah, and Malachi, New England seamen bound by blood, ambition, and a shared stake in a dangerous enterprise. Their sleek vessels prowl the Caribbean, hunting merchantmen, outwitting Royal Navy patrols, and turning war into opportunity.

But privateering is no gentleman’s game.

With rival captains, shifting loyalties, and the ever-present threat of British retaliation, every prize could be their last, and every victory brings them deeper into a conflict that will decide the fate of a nation.

From the heat of Caribbean harbours to the thunder of battle at sea, To Glory Arise is a vivid, action-packed tale of courage, rivalry, and the birth of American seapower.

2) The Tern Schooner (Privateers & Gentlemen Book 2) - Walter Jon Williams

***Originally published by Dell in 1981 as The Yankee

Amazon US---Amazon UK---Amazon Canada---Amazon Australia

Spoiler:

War has taken everything from Gideon Markham: his family, his peace, and any life beyond the sea.

Sailing into the treacherous waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Gideon wages relentless war against British shipping, carrying on the fierce privateering legacy of his name. But the Gulf is no simple hunting ground. It is a lawless world of shifting loyalties, where danger comes from every horizon. Pirates under the infamous Jean Laffite stalk the coastline.

Yet none of these dangers prepare Gideon for Maria-Anna de Suarez.

A widow of sharp wit and sharper aim, she plays cards like a gambler, carries pistols like a soldier, and harbours a plan as bold as it is reckless: to strike deep into enemy territory.

What follows is a perilous journey through hostile lands and treacherous waters, where trust is fragile, ambition is deadly, and survival is never guaranteed.

Packed with action, intrigue, and unforgettable characters, The Tern Schooner is a gripping tale of war, vengeance, and the dangerous pull of destiny at sea.

Sword at Sunset by Rosemary Sutcliff is £1 in the UK (Kobo, Amazon)

For fourteen centuries the story of Arthur was a legend, misted over by the tradition of romantic hero-tales. But Arthur was real - a man of towering strength, a dreamer and a warrior who actually lived, fought and died for his impossible dream.

In Sutcliffe's now legendary retelling, King Arthur is brought passionately to life.

This brilliant reconception of the Arthurian epic cuts through the familiar myths and tells the story of the real King Arthur: Artos the Bear, the mighty warrior-king who saved the last lights of Western civilization when the barbarian darkness descended in the fifth century. Artos here comes alive: bold and forceful in battle, warm and generous in friendship, tough in politics, shrewd in the strategy of war - and tender and tragically tormented in love. Out of the braiding of ancient legend, fresh research, soaring imagination and hypnotic narrative skill comes a novel that has richly earned its reputation as a classic.

I think that's on Gutenberg, or somewhere?

Those are well-known old illustrations.

The trick is to look at the publisher. "e-artnow" doesn't inspire confidence that one is getting a quality product.

Thanks, I wasn't meaning to trick on you (plural), as giving for granted several stories would had been on Gutemberg (but not collected); for 0,99 cents it wouldn't have looked bad, thought the images I posted were from a quick search that I wasn't sure either them come from the book.
Have to say pardon for the umpteenth time: the very next time I'd write clear.
Thanks again.

"The Book of Elsewhere" (a novel), by Keanu Reeves, China Miéville is @ 1,99$ on Kobo.

"practically Freudian fan fiction", a stark contrast to her expectations, given Miéville's personal position as a staunch communist. She appreciated the ability to read the book as a "lost case study", finding the context of 'B' as a metaphor for Freud's death drive theory.

This is very much an SFF book, despite what the quote from WIRED suggests.

If not Elsewhere, then Elsewhen.
