Some of my books are still bugged with dark mode (dark text on dark background, but not a big deal). One suggestion: there are many options in the header/footer settings, but one more would be helpful. In Nickel I used to have the chapter title and the page in chapter. So I do the same in Kobalt. But I have books with long chapter titles, and in that case the page count gets pushed down by the title because it’s too long. What would help is if the page in chapter were fixed in place, or if there were another option named “Page in chapter and chapter”, as the first is more important than the full chapter title. |

I'm not sure that beta 4 has fixes for dark text on dark pages, please stay tuned for beta 5 for that. |

Well, I ran into an error almost immediately. Kobalt opened the book I'm reading just fine at first; after some customizations I exited Kobalt and opened the book in Nickel. After this Kobalt no longer opens the book - "Failed handling EPUB spine item 'OEBPS/html/14_body6.html' (application/xhtml+xml, body014).
The item in question is just an ordinary html file in the epub - pure text, no fancy formatting or images or anything. No errors when I checked in the calibre editor. |

Beta 4 is lovely. The 'one hand' tap zone is everything I have ever wanted from an ereader. The 2 column landscape was a nice surprise. And the header/footer settings work well for me.
Kobalt is finally developed enough that I can use it as my primary reading method. Thank you VERY much. |

OMG! Beta 4 is awesome. It has every thing i need and also everything i dont't. There is just one little thing: Since i'm not the youngest out there and my eyes are not so good as they were in earlier times, it would be nice, if "Large" on Header and Footer could be a little "Larger".
Besides of that, this version fullfilles every of my reading needs and wishes. Great Job! |

It would also be nice if the text in the dictionary were a bit larger.

Regarding dictionary lookups: for them to work properly you have to long-press a word, then press the X in the corner to exit the dictionary.
Could this be changed so that one can press anywhere on the screen to exit the dictionary? Current behaviour registers that as a normal touch action, which has led to sudden page turns, the menu popping up, etc when just trying to exit the dictionary. I would also love it if there would be a full screen refresh upon exiting the dictionary. I read in many foreign languages and sometimes have to look up several words on a page, leading to a lot of ghosting by using the dictionary without it refreshing the screen. This could, of course, be an option in the settings (but I think it should be the default by the same logic as returning from the menu causes a full refresh, ie pressing the middle of the screen to summon the menu and pressing again to return to the book, thus triggering the refresh). Also, could the page turn buttons be made to turn to the next screen in the dictionary? Sometimes a single entry has several pages of definitions. It would be really convenient, and is the way it works in Koreader. Multi-word selection for dictionary lookups doesn't seem available. Is that a planned feature? As for Android - are you planning on implementing the screen refresh and frontlight functions for Onyx Boox readers that are available in Koreader? And thank you for your great work! It keeps improving

The second Option in Settings/System/Sleep screen does not work. It shows the remaining time, instead of the battery status.
What i wrote about the textsize in Header/Footer is of course also valid for the textsizes in the menus. Another thing i really like is the one or two seconds delay when i open my sleepcover. With the Nickel Reader there was always a page turn backward and/or forward because the book opened too fast. Another question left: What about bookmarks? Are they imported from Nickel Reader or do i have to set them again? When i mark a book as finished in Kobalt and open it again later, it should, in my understanding, open at the first page and not stay on the last. Last edited by afakler; Today at 02:47 AM. |

I'll keep an eye on this thread for the next few days and I'll get back to y'all when I have more to report. Keep the feedback / bug reports coming, I'm looking at everything.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to take a bit of a break from building Kobalt and actually read/finish a book in Kobalt ![]() One request in the meantime. I know some folks here are using Tolino devices. Take this build for a spin, please, and let me know if it correctly saves your reading progress and rejects protected books: Kobalt-Tolino-Qt6.zip Last edited by MrSilverstrike; Today at 05:38 AM. Reason: Added Tolino build for testing |
