It would be better (IMHO) if there was an option to always allow beta versions to be updated.

If it's a major change, I'll install the portable until I know it works well enough. If there are still more beta versions, I'll do a regular install. If the beta is not so major, I'll do a regular install. The recent beta was just a regular install.

Calibre Updater 1.23.0: Test version
Calibre Updater 1.23.0: test version
This is a test version. I’ll keep it in testing until the next calibre Beta and the next stable release come out, so the new features can be tried in real conditions. If everything goes well, I’ll then publish it as the final version. If you only use stable releases Nothing changes for you: the plugin keeps updating calibre exactly as before, and none of the new options are enabled unless you turn them on. You can still help a lot: install this version and, when the next stable release comes out, update with the plugin as usual. Then let me know how it went, even if everything worked fine. Important: installing Betas is an experimental feature It’s off by default and is only recommended for experienced users who know how to reinstall calibre manually and restore their library from a backup if something goes wrong. If you enable it, you do so at your own risk. Betas are test versions of calibre and may contain bugs; the plugin only installs them, and any problem caused by a Beta itself is not something the plugin can prevent or fix. If you’re not comfortable with this, simply stay with stable releases. That’s what the plugin is designed for, and it’s the best way to help too. What would be most helpful to test Installing the next Beta (experimental), once a Beta newer than the current stable release is published, with Notify about Beta versions and Also install Beta versions enabled. Especially on macOS, which hasn’t been tested yet. Going from a Beta to the next stable release, especially on macOS. Portable copies (Windows) in different locations, with Automatically update this Portable copy enabled. Your own setup: anything different from a single standard installation, such as several copies of calibre, or the E-book viewer or editor, jobs or another copy of calibre open when updating. When reporting, please include Your system: Windows, macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel) or Linux (distribution). Your calibre installation type, as shown in the plugin settings under This calibre installation. A screenshot of that section is perfect. What you did and what happened. Screenshots of any unexpected message help a lot. The log file calibre-updater.log from your downloads folder. Reports that everything worked are just as useful as problem reports, so please post those too. Thanks for helping test! Last edited by dunhill; Today at 01:28 AM. |
