calibre crashes when clicking its icon in the Mac menu bar (macOS 27)
Hi Kovid,

I’m reporting this on behalf of a friend who uses calibre on a Mac. He sent me this crash report.

calibre closes suddenly every time he clicks its icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen, next to the clock.

calibre version: 9.16.0
macOS version: 27.0.1
Computer: Mac with Apple Silicon

What happens:

He clicks the calibre icon in the menu bar.
calibre quits immediately and macOS shows a crash report.

Turning off the menu bar icon in calibre’s preferences should avoid the crash.

I’ve attached the full crash report. Thanks for your work on calibre!

Tell your friend to try safe mode and see if calibre then works.
