The thing is, I literally just updated another Ao3 fic before and after this error, using and not using the cache method.
I’m having this issue too. I’m unable to import new works or update existing ones.

This is what’s in the AO3 section of my personal.ini which has worked pretty consistently for months without much tweaking, until now.

slow down_sleep_time: 4
use_archiveofourown_gay:false
use_browser_cache:true
use_browser_cache_only:true
open_pages_in_browser: true
browser_cache_age_limit: -1

I’ve played with both the down sleep time number and the age limit numbers but nothing has worked so far. Commenting out all of this doesn’t work either. :/

This is usually not a fanficfare issue, it's AO3's servers being robust hence lots of failures when downloading. Usually there's nothing much to do but just wait.

I tried switching from Chrome to Firefox and that didn't help. What's odd is that using the browser cache method used to open a few different AO3 pages for each fic. The main page, and the chapter index/navigate page, and maybe one other. Now it only opens the chapter index, twice. Just kind of weird.

At this point I'm just going to wait it out and hope it starts working again eventually. Thank you!

It could be that they(AO3) have started setting pages no-cache. I haven't seen that myself.

If that's true, using a browser add-on to force set pages to be cachable is a possibility. If you understand what that means, and want to try it, see this issue.

New Test Version Posted

2026-10-18
- Change how chapter metadata is stored in chapter files
- Fix mark new/unnew works with preserved chapters
- Update translations
- Add first_chapter/last_chapter to valid settings list.
- Fix numChapters for update_preserve_deleted_chapters
- Don't skip equal-count chapter swaps when preserving deleted chapters - #1428, thanks kitoma!

Also allows for ${preserved_chapter_mark} in chapter_title_X_pattern settings now:
Code:
chapter_title_def_pattern:${title} ${preserved_chapter_mark}
chapter_title_add_pattern:${number}. ${title} ${preserved_chapter_mark}
chapter_title_new_pattern:(new) ${title} ${preserved_chapter_mark}
chapter_title_addnew_pattern:${number}. (new) ${title} ${preserved_chapter_mark}
This version touches a lot of the epub update and unnew code. I've been using it for a couple days, kitoma already found a bug, but nobody complained about the 'alpha' version, so here it is.

Let me know if you have problems.

Hey, gang. I had a crash, lost my personal INI backup, and I'm having trouble finding the settings for:
1. Getting the info from a site to my "status" column to indicate if a fic is in progress or complete
2. How to set up the reading list plugin to set "read" to "no" when an update is downloaded.

I know the developer and others have explained this (and well!) but danged if I can find the places where. Drop me the links, I'll figure it out again.

Thanks in advance.

The easiest way is to go to FFF's config Custom Columns tab and set your status column with 'Status'.

There's a wiki page about setting up Reading List with FFF. That should help.

Is there a way to add direct info to the stylesheet.css when downloading? I did a search and couldn't find anything about it.

Storiesonline has been using the <article> tag instead of <p>, which is technically incorrect, but I don't particularly care. However, my ereader defaults to running those all together without margin spacing above/below, since there's no info in the stylesheet for it. For the moment, since I only read a few I just add css manually, but I'd love to just automate it.

Or, if there's another way to fix it I'd love to hear it.
