I wonder if some kind soul can convert this Fictionary to a Kobo-friendly format?
I know that a Discworld dictionary was posted earlier, but that one is almost useless to me as I can't find anything in it.

Thank you in advance

I had to convert the dictionary with correcting utf-8 errors. It shows up in my dictionary list as English-U.S. English (Custom) after I copied the file into the ./kobo/cust-dict and seemed to work for the 1 word I looked up.

I found a Freedict Français-Italiano dictionary and converted it to Kobo dictionary format. Place the dicthtml-fr-it.zip in the /.kobo/custom-dict directory and it seems to work when you lookup a word and select the Français-Italiano (Custom) dictionary. I only tested 6 words and they worked as far as I could tell. The original file shows a head word count of 67,356 words.

Thank you very much. I tried it and it seems to work very well.
Much appreciated.

Dictionary] English–Turkish for Kobo/Kindle/KOReader — 246k headwords etc.

Hi all — I built a free English→Turkish dictionary for e-readers, compiled
from Tureng.com (the de-facto standard Turkish-English dictionary).

- 246,479 headwords / 715,278 senses / 70,813 bilingual example sentences
- Inflected forms are mapped to their lemma automatically
(tapping "ran" shows "run", "caught" shows "catch", incl. irregulars)
- Root-word line shown for inflected forms ("kök: catch")
- Category (Math, Medicine, Law...) and part of speech on every sense

Formats & install:
- Kobo: dicthtml-en-tr.zip → .kobo/dict/
- KOReader (StarDict): folder → koreader/data/dict/
- Kindle: dictionary.mobi → documents/dictionaries/

Download + source (Python scripts included, MIT for code):
https://github.com/Okbaydere/ereader...onary/releases

Data is compiled from Tureng.com and shared for personal/educational use.
Feedback welcome — especially from Turkish-speaking Kobo/Kindle owners.

Hi everyone,

My husband and I have created eReaderDicts, a collection of free bilingual dictionaries for Kobo and Kindle.

The project started because I enjoy reading in other languages and struggled to find suitable dictionaries for my Kindle. My husband began making them for me, and we decided to share them with other readers.

We currently offer 15 languages paired with English, with separate dictionaries for both translation directions:

Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian Bokmål, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Spanish and Swedish.

Downloads and installation guides:
https://ereaderdicts.com

The Kobo dictionaries are provided as ZIP files for the .kobo/custom-dict folder. Kindle versions are available as .mobi files. All downloads are free, with no registration required.

The dictionaries combine publicly available dictionary material with some translations generated using language models. They also include additional word forms to help with lookups. We’re continuing to improve them, so corrections and feedback are welcome.

We’d be glad to hear how they work on your Kobo, particularly whether word lookup and dictionary selection behave as expected.

I hope other readers find them useful!

Susanna

This is a great idea! Any places to support other languages such as Japanese?

Thank you both for the kind words and suggestions!

We looked into Russian, Japanese and other languages that use different writing systems, but ran into difficulties getting the characters to display consistently in Kindle and Kobo dictionary interfaces. We also don’t currently have the language expertise to properly check the entries and translations.

We’d like to be confident that any dictionary we share is both usable and reliable, so we’re keeping the collection to languages we can check more confidently for now.

We don’t currently have a Russian–Polish dictionary, and we can’t promise a release date for these languages. It’s helpful to know which ones people are looking for, though, so thank you for letting us know!
