Installed!!!! - as for the why, the only thing coming up is: with a freshly downloaded DeACSM_0.0.16.zip file from https://plugins.calibre-ebook.com/

After a big for uncovering what the problem was not,
on to linking to ADE account, and new options that I would appreciate advice on. What do these mean:
-Notify ACS server...
- Enable verbose debug...
- Delete ACSM file...
???

That was a lazy question from me: hoovering over the options shows what they mean.
Sorry about that.

Linux: on old laptop installed DeACSM easily.
On dual-boot Desktop same procedure failed: logfile about it is long and contains lots of personal info.

If anyone here is so kind to take it up - should i clean up the file and send it in?

It appeard you are running a realoly old Calibre: calibre 7.6 (distro calibre is almost always stale.

Go to the official CALIBRE download page and paste the Linux commandline into a console window.

Worked!! (my first sudo )
Mate installed it but doesn´t update - good to know but how stupid! No link to updates either. That's a problem for Linux forums.

So glad (not linked to ADE yet, tomorrow).
THANKS

You get a notice ON Calibre, but you always have to use the commandline because this is not the (stale) version in the package manager.

There is a plugin called Calibre Updater that will make it very easy to update calibre when a new version is released.

This. Or the Flatpak which is concurrent (usually within 24 hours) of the tarball releases. I've been using the Flatpaks for a couple of years. Yes the code is 100% identical as demonstrated by identical SHA256/SHA512 checksums. Yes the plugins absolutely do work when installed correctly. I walked through a technical proof of this last year or something.

I just ran through the process with the current Flatpak version (9.14). Still works the same. The font copy is because the Flatpak container uses symlinks which aren't necessarily correct when copied out to the filesystem. The steps replace symlinks with the actual font files.

IMHO, it would be easier to use the Calibre Updater plugin.
