In theory yes, in practice you are more likely to stop using the device for other reasons, like the battery giving in, or damaging the screen… and even if you were to fix those things, assuming you fill up to stop it from updating and after jb you just continue to use the device normally, I’ll probably be decades (under normal circumstances) before that becomes a real issue.

I currently have a registered Colorsoft on 5.18.0.2 in airplane mode. Should I update to 5.19.6 first and then apply Vera or use another jailbreak method since I'm on old version, and then update?

Are there any benefits in older jailbreak methods compared to Vera?

Switching OTA on will not get you an older firmware. You would have to manually download the firmware on your computer and copy it to your Scribe.

The download link for older firmware can be generated from the current firmware download link and then modifying the file name portion of the URL.

For the Scribe 2024/Scribe2 firmware, the 5.19.6 firmware download link is
https://s3.amazonaws.com/firmwaredownloads/update_kindle_scribe_2024_5.19.6.bin so substitute 5.18.2 for the 5.19.6 and you get https://s3.amazonaws.com/firmwaredownloads/update_kindle_scribe_2024_5.18.2.bin as the download link.

Due to changes made in the security features of the Kindle firmware, I am not certain if this will allow you to downgrade the firmware as I do not have a device to test it on.

Sadly, you cannot downgrade on 5.19.x. Amazon hardened the bootloader.

Thank you for this!!! It worked perfectly and was a super quick procedure! I've had my PW11 stuck on 5.19.2 forever, a few months ago I almost bought another Kindle on 5.18 via eBay just to hack it but I'm glad I didn't, and I'm so glad I put my Kindle into airplane mode months ago!

I just bought a Kindle Paperwhite 12th Edition (2024) used from someone for $80. It came with firmware 5.20.1. I used Vera to successfully jailbreak it and install KOReader.
