AFAIK thew Plugboard used Calibre DB fields, not the books metadata. But I am a bit puzzled on why Send To Device did not update that with the current values.

Well, going forward I've learned how to correct it. Being pointed to the .opf for editing was an eye opener for fixing the translator problem.

Translators are obviously creators, as they are the subject of the copyright of the translation, and not the original author. The "contributor" roles in MARC vocabulary are for auxiliary roles, like illustrators, poets, proofreaders, typesetters, binders, etc.
If the reader consider all creators as authors, it is buggy.

Sadly, the MARC vocabulary disagrees with you. That is why it has the translator role ("trl") which in almost every translation I've looked at is used with the translator as a contributor refined by the "trl" role.

I did find it rather amusing that your also wrote that poet is an auxiliary role. I seem to remember reading quite a few books of poetry where the creator was the poet. Who would you claim is the creator/author of books such as Leonard Cohen's Book of Longing or Stranger Music: Selected Poems and Songs?

As for the original issue, Kobo's firmware does treat the first creator in the OPF as the author for the book. For calibre users who update their metadata, on the next connect after the book has been imported, this will be corrected. Since according to you the translator is an author, the original import would be correct.

Quote:
translator [trl]
A person or organization who renders a text from one language into another, or from an older form of a language into the modern form.
Quote:
author [aut]
A person, family, or organization responsible for creating a work that is primarily textual in content, regardless of media type (e.g., printed text, spoken word, electronic text, tactile text) or genre (e.g., poems, novels, screenplays, blogs). Use also for persons, etc., creating a new work by paraphrasing, rewriting, or adapting works by another creator such that the modification has substantially changed the nature and content of the original or changed the medium of expression.
