I thought about it because my Oasis is not holding a charge like it used to. Plus the micro usb is a pain. Then I realized that the Oasis weighs 6.6 oz. The Paperwhite with the button case weighs 12.81 oz.

As the arthritis in my hands gets worse I have been gravitating to my 6 inch readers. I have plenty of readers to choose from and I rotate between them because none are perfect. I have been rotating between my PW4, GL4, and Clara Colour. The PW4 is the least comfortable to hold. I was surprised it still qualified for the 20% off trade-in so I decided to try the Kindle basic.

I've only had it a day, but so far I am happy.

Whereas I have read multiple messages about both success and failure. At this point, I would say it is worth trying since none of the failures seem to result in a bricked Kindle.

No need for excessive force much less tossing it on the floor. I have trouble seeing how that would help much since the end of the battery cover is level with the end of the remote though the lanyard does give maybe a millimetre of space.
I have limited strength in my hands. I can get most remotes open to replace the batteries with no problem, but not the Kobo remote. The Kindle remote looks like the same design so I'm expecting it to be just as hard for me.

Which kindle remote? The new "click" has a rechargeable battery that, I assume, is not designed to be removed.

Great! Now I wonder if it would work on a Kobo Libra Color.

Unlikely, sadly. Each are designed to work with their respective devices only.

The only fly in the ointment is my case; I can't use the sensor with the case, which is unfortunate because I can't abide naked devices. My previous case would've been just fine but I recently changed to one of those cases with a kickstand, where the Kindle fits inside a slot; with this style, the sensor is not touching the surface of the Kindle. I'll simply have to order a new case, but my current case is also new (got it two months ago) and I can't think of anyone I can pass it on to

I wasn't referring to the Kindle Click, but this page turner that issybird brought to my attention: Page Turner for Kindle Remote Control for iPhone iPad Tablets eReaders. A cheaper option than getting a new Kindle plus corresponding accessories

I bought that same page turner in Pink the other day. I like it so much that I just ordered a pillow stand to hold my kindle as I read it sitting on my couch!

Entirely possible that either they screwed up trying to use Vera or Vera is hit and miss on 5.20.1. "You pays your money, and you takes your choice".
Someone else told me on reddit that recovering the jailbreak with Vera works, as I confirmed, but that a new jailbreak might not be working. That's confirming you here. If they can give it a few tries and start from different font settings it might work, but I wouldn't put a lot of hope on it at this point unless they are able to update the jailbreak again.

Jailbreak works from scratch on 5.20.1 with no previous jailbreak, the developer of Vera (yubaix) has explicitly added support for these Kindles and I have seen only succeses when performed correctly.

TLDR:
It works.

Entirely possible depending on when the support for 5.20.1 was added, the people who have written about issues had attempted to use Véra before the update. Hmmm... looking at the GitHub page, yubaix pushed the support for 5.20.1 3 days ago on 2026-Oct-07.
