The Vera jailbreak is unpatched on these Kindles. we have a functional jailbreak right now. DNSB is wrong, there is a working jailbreak for 5.20.1

Odd. I haven't had to replace the battery in my Kobo Remote since I bought it as a Christmas gift for myself in December, 2025. I did open it to take a look at the battery when it first arrived. I put my thumb on the arrow marking on the battery cover for a bit more friction with the lanyard slot facing me, pulled the cover toward me and it slid open. No need for excessive force much less tossing it on the floor. I have trouble seeing how that would help much since the end of the battery cover is level with the end of the remote though the lanyard does give maybe a millimetre of space.

Interesting. The one person I know whose new Kindle updated to 5.20.1 during setup stated they were unable to jailbreak their device. Please note I am not referring to being able to re-establish an existing jailbreak but jailbreaking a device which has not previously been jailbroken.

Entirely possible that either they screwed up trying to use Vera or Vera is hit and miss on 5.20.1. "You pays your money, and you takes your choice".

It did take a few attempts to get Vera to take again on my 2022. I don't know if there's something about *making* the settings adjustments that introduces the vulnerability vs just having the theme already set to the ones the guide has you use. I was in there moving them around for the second and third attempts and something finally worked.
