Technology changes all the time. I didn't have my current laptop more than 6 months when the next version was introduced. Or my cell phone. Or my ipod. Nobody "duped" you -- were you promised that a new version wouldn't come out within x amount of months?

It happens all the time -- but in this case I don't view the DX as a direct competitor to the K2. Rather, it's in its own category with only the iLiad as a close competitor. (This is kind of how I view the laptop vs. netbook situation.)
Next thing you know, purchasers of the DX are going to start clamoring for the device to be "opened" up so they can install their favorite Linux applications on it -- forgetting that its a reader and not a general purpose computing and network device. |

On the other hand, I don't really recommend any of the 6 inch readers for pdf's. If you are reading technical documents or textbooks you must have a larger screen. For me its like buying a new Prius and then seeing them announce a new hybrid mini-van. They may both be hybrid, but a Prius won't fit the bill if you really needed a mini-van. |

I bought my Kindle 2 relatively recently as well, but I dont feel duped, I've used it a LOT. It's going to find a very nice home with one of my relatives. Perfect mothers day present hehe.

Technology changes all the time, especially when you're early adopting some new tech like e-ink ereaders.
The key is to just hold off until there's a device that does everything you need. If some one needed good PDF support and/or a larger screen, they should have waited until such a device was out instead buying something else that didn't suit their needs. No one got duped, some people just had to have the newest gadget and didn't have the self control to wait until something better was out. Besides, Kindle's go for good prices on Craigslist and ebay, so anyone that wants to upgrade/switch can sell there's for most of what they paid for it anyway. |

Apple doesn't have a reader and isn't planning on making one. So you'll have one heck of a long wait. And if Apple dos come out with something you feel you can use to read books, you'll get battery life so poor, that you'll not be able to read an entire book before the battery needs charging.

In going back and reading my comments, I realized that they may have left you with the wrong impression
![]() The reason I wrote was not to disagree with your thoughts or to belittle your situation. I see these message boards as also providing a record for others who are researching a new purchase. I wanted to establish the point that the K2 is still a current model, not one outdated by the DX. The point is that they serve two different purposes, and in some cases the K2 may be superior to the newer DX, in other cases -- not so much ![]() Quote:

A tablet with current color screens just isn't going to meet my minimum requirements for a reader. I want something that can go at least a full day without a recharge. I'd prefer it to be about a pound and comfortable to hold as well as comfortable for my eyes. Even with an LED-lit screen, it's hard to get more than 5-6 hrs out of a tablet or netbook and they're generally 2-3 pounds and hot. Even if you don't mind reading on a lit screen, they're not that good as reading devices. Apple has great designers but they're not magicians. They need radically better tech before they'll have the tablet of my dreams. Personally, I'm waiting to see what Pixel Qi's tech looks like. We should know its capabilities fairly soon. If it's not quite there yet, I'll probably order the DX to tide me over. |

For my part I'm just sorry DX doesn't allow search, highlighting or annotation of pdfs. Now THAT would have been useful to me.
Or Folders. I would have gotten one (whimper) even without search/highlight/annotate capability if it had folders. Oh well. Maybe DX-2. |
