Any guesses on when Amazon will lock down the Voyage (the only kindle where deDRM in Calibre still works)?

if you did run renameotabin, then you should be fairly safe. ie. your Oasis should stay on 5.18.2 and not update to 5.18.2.1.1 for those who did not do this, their Oasis 3 will get the 5.18.2.1.1 update if they take it off airplane mode. |

One acquaintance of mine had a jailbroken PW4 (10th gen) on 5.18.1. They were looking at the epub reader addin and so updated to 5.18.1.1.1. Now they are able to read epubs on their Kindle though quite a few of the more advanced features do not work and a fixed layout ePub3 can best be described as a disaster.
As expected, they have lost the ability to import KFX files from the PW4. Since their main computer is still running Windows 10, they are now forced to download the KFX files into the Kindle for Windows app on their W11 laptop, remove the DRM and then copy the files to their Windows 10 machine to import into calibre. |

Sadly, they did not want to install K4PC 2.9.1 unless they could get it as a download from Amazon. There are times when people actions are so contradictory you can do nothing but laugh.
We were chatting about their issue and I have made my copy of the K4PC 2.9.1 installer that I had downloaded a while back available to them. |

I installed the .bin to add EPUB support to the native reader on my KOA2 and it works like you say, but it's not just advanced features that may be broken. I got the new Jasper Fforde novel in EPUB and it uses many fonts. Those didn't all show in the Amazon reader, but did show in KOReader with the same file.

One recent example was a person complaining about how slow their browser was. Took a quick look and that look showed they had ~15 toolbars installed. Cleaned those up and the browser was suddenly fast again. A week later, complains again. Looked at it again and crap, the toolbars are back. Evidently, there is a browser based game that he NEEDS and it installs a shipping container full of crap with it. My response was to send him a video link: |
