I had never used Pages until a week ago or so, and then to copy-and-paste the TextEdit rtf file contents and images into it so as to produce an ePub output. All of that seemed to go reasonably well so I am curious as to why you suggest not using it. Is it known to have issues?

I output both ePub and pdf outputs from it and both formats seemed to be OK, so what is the problem in using it? I am not trying to be argumentative. I am truly curious.

I have downloaded LibreOffice and will install and use it, but is it really any better at producing an ePub output than Pages?

The code from pages is not good. Even AI says to use calibre or Sigil to convert your clean source to ePub.

FWIW: I downloaded and installed LibreOffice and it seems pretty slick. It does export to ePub format so I am not sure why it would be better to save as a docx and then convert using Calibre, but I will give that a try as well.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I forget that LibraOffice also outputs ePub.

Do not use Calibre for anything related to RTF. Its implementation is a placeholder.
Use any word processor to convert to an HTML- or XML-based format.
