I'm in the US also.

It just seemed strange for country availability not to be listed, and have customers go through the buying process, and experience disappointment when the sale doesn't go through.

Since there is a gift option, I can buy and gift it to those interested. I assume the recipient can be anywhere.

I honestly don't understand why publishers make it so hard to give them money.

It doesn't work like that. The non-UK bundles don't appear at all, to me. I didn't get an email about them (although sometimes I do, and that's pretty annoying too), they don't show in the list of bundles on the site, and a direct link just takes me to an error page. I wouldn't know they existed if I hadn't seen other people posting about them.

Thanks for the info. At least they attempt to shield you from disappointment.

The publishers/authors get paid the same regardless of the exchange rate.

One author I chat with who has books published in quite a few English language markets would disagree with you. With the Aussie dollar going up against the Canadian dollar, their most recent biyearly royalty payment from HarperCollins Australia had gone up by ~4% per book sold over the same payment from last year when converted to Cdn dollars.

That's assuming the publishers on both sides of the pond are charging close to the same price for the book.

Compare the US prices of The Forever War series:
https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-forever-war-5
https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/forever-peace-1
https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/forever-free-2

to the UK prices for the same books:
https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/the-forever-war-1
https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/forever-peace
https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/forever-free

It would not be unreasonable to assume that under normal circumstances, Open Road Media does not want its users getting access to the cheaper Orion/Gateway editions.

You have it incorrect. If I a book in the UK is £2.99 and I am in the US (where that book is not available) and I go traveling via Kobo Travel Agency, I'll be paying £2.99 for that book.

Jon, might I point out that the message you seem to be replying to was about books available in both the US and UK markets.

One of examples was The Forever War where the US price is $12.99 US while the UK price is £5.99. So £9.82 compared to £5.99. So if the author is receiving a 15% royalty on both editions, you are by buying the UK edition instead of the US edition are costing Joe Haldeman ~$0.76. Say this is done by 1000 people, he loses $759.60 US.

As it's DAW books, I suspect it's likely US-only, but correct me if I'm wrong.

ETA: It is US-only.

The reply I originally replied to was a reply to a post about being hard to be able to buy something in another country when your country doesn't have it.

So if the reply I replied to is wrong, then that's where the error is.

Jumped on the Gene Wolfe bundle. Best bundle I've seen in awhile. I did end up already owning about 12 of these books, but 26/38 new ones ain't bad--still plenty of value I'm getting for $20.
