For phones I can put up with them, as there is no good alternative at the moment, but I'd like my ereaders to use only buttons for navigation, yes.

I do admit that the screen of my Kindle Keyboard is just a bit nicer to look at because it doesn't have the touchscreen layer. But as a compromise, I am fine with my Oasis having the touchscreen for the menus and the physical buttons for turning pages.

Sounds like Amazon is doing the most to get the most money out of people. I won't be one of them. I like readers with buttons on the reader, I prefer to get aftermarket cases at reasonable prices. Fortunately, there are now a lot of options to get those things and Amazon can be ignored. Choices are good, having your own preferences are good. Going around in endless debating circles over ones personal preferences is just S.....Immature. |

My Kobo Aura H20 has a touchscreen but not touchscreen layer because it's IR.

E-ink screens have lost clarity with each new tech layer added. Touch reduced clarity, the light layer reduced clarity. Now color, though that's different thing altogether.
I remember the old kindles just before touch. The clarity was shockingly good. People thought the display screens were stuck on. But touch and light have added huge convenience, and screen clarity improvements have somewhat made up for the losses of the added layers. Personally I like to have buttons AND touch. |

I wonder how the case buttons interface with the hardware. Will they work reliably? Generally these add-on cases don't work well--thinking of the battery case for the Oasis and the Sage. Both glitchy. |

The Button and Cover debates will never end.
Evidently Button lovers are a small minority, or Amazon would see a reason to produce devices with them. They come finally come out with cover-with-buttons to accommodate and now it turns out some button lovers don't want to use covers, and don't like or cannot physically use touch screens. I would give Amazon credit for at least providing some options (cover or wireless page turner with buttons) after all this time. But obviously they cannot please everyone. They claim to be selling more Kindles than ever, and the fact that they are releasing 6 (not including Kids editions) is some sort of proof of that. |

I don't get why some people can't use a touchscreen who have no physical reason. |
