You've never read any Gene Wolfe? The Books of the New Sun? The Books of the Long Sun? Iatro?

That bundle is worth it for those series alone, plus all the stand-alone titles.

Gene Wolfe is excellent. Kind of on the literary end of the spectrum - you don't necessarily expect to understand everything the first time through. I was a big big fan for a while in the 90s and have a shelf full of his books, but haven't read many since then.

Book of the New Sun is widely regarded as his best work, but it was never my favourite. I liked the Latro books and some of the standalones. Some of the short story collections are pretty great, too.
