Need Help with Calibre "send to template" for Kobo Aura ONE

I am currently using this template in Calibre:
{series}{series_index:0>2s|- |- }{title}{author_sort}
This sorts authors on my Kobo by last name. I would like to be able to sort by first name. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I do not have any programming experience. TIA

Your Kobo sorts by what it believes to be the last name by default and this is done from the metadata and has nothing to do with the template. Also I have to wonder why you are including the series/series index in the file name since your Aura One will display series/series index without needing to so so.

My preferred Save template set in the KoboTouch driver configuration is:

Ebooks/{author_sort:sublist(0,1,&)}/{title} - {authors:sublist(0,1,&)}

The reasoning is to put all my books sent by calibre in a subdirectory and not in the root of the exposed storate ( Ebooks/ ) and then into subdirectories based on the first entry in the author sort ( {author_sort:sublist(0,1,&)}/ ) and finally a file name based on the title of the ebook - first entry in the authors list.

Since I can find any author in the full authors list using search, this keeps the length of the filename/directory path under control. Since the root directory has a maximum number of directory entries and using long filenames chews that number up surprisingly fast, a subdirectory is a quick and easy solution.

You can't sort by first name.

Do you remember seeing 'Processing' when you eject after sending? That is the KOBO extracting the metadata FROM the book. You would have to muck with your entire Library to force non-standard metadata (making almost all metadata tools useless), just to trick the Kobo to Fn sort.

(you are not alone) Where did this Sort by First name way come from Filing has been done by Last name long before My Great Grand parents were born.
FWIW Kobo has a great built in Search. Just type in the First name and it will show every entry that contains it

The first part of my reply, I had thought, covered your situation. Kobo's firmware sorts on what appears to be the last name. There is no patch or tweak for that. In theory, you could reverse the first name/last name without including a separating comma but that has been tried before with the results described as unsatisfactory.
