"Your Clippings" is no more

It seems this feature was removed with recent update. I will not miss it myself, and am even a little glad that it is gone ('clutter'' and performance drag because it needed indexing every time annotation is made), but I know that is not the case for others who relied on it for their use cases.

I wonder what prospects there are for extracting annotations from the files in .sdr folder?

Oh no! I have been using this since the first Kindle was released in Germany, and I still need it because I read a daily newspaper on the Kindle. Which is not sold by Amazon anymore, so technically it's a "document", i.*e. no highlighted quotes on Amazon's website.

And even worse: I have not saved the last clippings before updating. Damn.

Regarding the "performance drag": Seriously, on modern Kindles caused by one file? And of course you could delete it any time.

KRDS, to which you have contributed, has been arround for years. And a really slick and fancy solution, kindle-reading-dashboard, has been around for months.

Thanks for reminding me about KRDS, 'to which I have contributed' and then forgot about!

And will check out kindle-reading-dashboard. Though it requires jailbreak for full dashboard, only gets highlights for AZW3/mobi, and without jailbreak / SSH, it does not currently support MTP Kindles for the data extraction that's possible without jailbreak.

So for side loading folks, this is not going to be as simple to get highlights and notes. And if you prefer to side load KFX, no support for that.

The only thing I side load are comics/manga in KFX and that does not support annotations.

Yes, sadly it is the case, I don't know to what extent, but it could be measured by just side loading text files of various sizes and seeing how long it takes to index.

Of course you could delete but then a new one would show up in library (with Recent sort), which is annoying, at least to me. Why would someone ever want to open and read it?

To get the highlights out, of course. I highlight so I can quote. It was just plain text, but I could get the highlights by just connecting the Kindle to my Mac (okay, that was easier when a Kindle was still recognized as an USB drive). I copied the clippings file and then deleted it on the Kindle once a month, so no indexing lags.

As I found out just a moment ago, My Clippings.txt did not get deleted by the latest software update. So at least I was able to save the older clippings.

The initial release didn't support KFX, but a pull request that does got contributed a couple of months ago and was accepted/merged a month ago. I don't have any KFX and have not tested it.

I guess someone with a MTP kindle could open an issue to request MTP support.
