I'm a big fan of Wrede's, and I've re-read those two books more than once. Great value for money here.

I agree. I owned those two books in paperback and then replaced them with ebook versions. The grandkids are in love with the Cimorene novels.

Acts of God by Kanan Gill is $2 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)

The twenty-first-century heir to Kurt Vonnegut, Kanan Gill’s debut, Acts of God, is a madcap futuristic romp that dares to question the meaning of existence—with equal parts reverence and hilarity.

Private detective P. Manjunath thinks like fire and works like dust as he sets out to investigate existential cataclysms unfolding all over the globe—not knowing that the ripples in reality he sees are being caused by Dr. Krishna, a scientist in a utopian future and technically the God of their world.

As Manjunath’s investigation disrupts God’s plans, a Danish police officer attains enlightenment, a lapel pin gives disruptive advice, a sentient wall provides the key to creativity, a pill cures the human condition, and everyone in the world develops a lisp at the same time.

A blend of philosophical provocation, inventive lyricism, humor, and chaos, Acts of God marks the evolution of one of the finest voices in comedy.

The Sixth Nik by Daniel Kraus is $3 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)

Perfectly aligned for readers of Iain M. Banks’s The Culture series and Ursula K. Le Guin’s “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas”, The Sixth Nik is a galaxy spanning adventure from the New York Times bestselling and Pulitzer Prize–winning author of Angel Down and Whalefall.

Deep into space, far past the triworld outposts, beyond range of the lethal trollbot internet, soars The Sickness: a ship woven from biomatter and capable of reacting to every need of its human crew. Sisilla, a nine-year-old cultist with a brain enhanced by arcane tech known as “niks,” has boarded to investigate the enigma of Fém—a plague-riddled planet that has abruptly gone rogue.

The mysterious crew includes a faceless assassin, a beautiful engineer jigsawed by plastic surgery, a peyote-addicted medic, and—most lethal of all—a rugged, NonModded captain with a score to settle with Sisilla. Other dangers abound. A hacked robot begins to believe Sisilla is its daughter. The Sickness itself is mutating, possibly even pregnant. And the secret of Fém is more horrific than anyone could have imagined. To survive, Sisilla will need to forsake her predetermined fate and embrace the unknown.

All the Names They Used for God by Anjali Sachdeva is $2 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
A short story collection. Some of them SFF.

[B]A dystopian tale about genetically modified septuplets who are struck by a mysterious illness; a love story about a man bewitched by a mermaid; a stirring imagining of the lives of Nigerian schoolgirls in the aftermath of a Boko Haram kidnapping. The stories in All the Names They Used for God break down genre barriers—from science fiction to American Gothic to magical realism to horror—and are united by each character’s brutal struggle with fate. Like many of us, the characters in this collection are in pursuit of the sublime. Along the way, they must navigate the borderland between salvation and destruction.

Joe Haldeman bundle now: https://www.humblebundle.com/books/j...ad-media-books

17 books at top tier, so not as good value as the Aldiss bundle.

[batpuppy]

I already have 18 out of the 41.
May still be worth the around 1.30 each for the 23 books, I have to think about it.

The Crystal World by J.G. Ballard is $3 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)

"Magical and not to be missed," a dystopian novel of a man traveling through Africa who encounters an apocalyptic forest heralding environmental collapse ( The Guardian ).

Through a "leaking" of time, the West African jungle starts to crystallize. Trees metamorphose into enormous jewels. Crocodiles encased in second glittering skins lurch down the river. Pythons with huge blind gemstone eyes rear in heraldic poses. Most flee the area in terror, afraid to face a catastrophe they cannot understand.

But some, dazzled and strangely entranced, remain to drift through this dreamworld forest: a doctor in pursuit of his ex-mistress, an enigmatic Jesuit wielding a crystal cross and a tribe of lepers searching for Paradise.

In this tour de force of the imagination, J.G. Ballard transports the reader into one of his most unforgettable landscapes.

"Beautifully rendered . . . Ballard the poet in full ecstatic blast." —Anthony Burgess, author of A Clockwork Orange

Seen it go on sale for this price on Amazon before, but this is the first in awhile I've seen the sale price on Kobo as well.

These books are FREE because the authors participating agreed with the promotion to help advance literacy.

Two or three titles were already 'sold out'.

I have no affiliation with Undertaker Books.

*Yes, slightly misplaced in this thread, but there's a wider audience here in honor of her literacy program.
