This was a suggestion for when you are forcing ePubs to use RMSDK and want to open an file with TENG. My quick test seemed to show that using kepub.epub will force the use of TENG.

Since JSWolf is not running a v5 firmware and likely does not have a device capable of running it, just an intellectual exercise for him in asking that question.

Sure. Just set the font to anything but the publisher font. If the weight can be set, it's RMSDK. If it only switches from regular to bold it's TENG

I'd very much call the 5.x firmware a work in progress.

There's bugs, it's somewhat slow. But you do have access to Adobe's renderer if you need it, which is a good fallback. I generally consider it a downgrade from 4.x (for now) unless you frequently use the built-in browser. Chromium driving the browser means all web browsing on the device receives a major upgrade.

For pure reading, I think you can objectively say that the reader app is somewhat slower than the previous one.

From a security POV of course it's good that they've updated their system software stack, but I hope they continue to polish the reader app specifically before they call this release "done".

(They did finally add a clock!)

Firmware 5.18 also supports lcpl files, which 4.x doesn't. And, you can directly download acsm files from the browser without the need for a PC.

No, it's still pretty old. No small caps support.

That's the plan, yes. Stay tuned for more news in the next month.

(There's also going to be a checkbox in Settings > Reading in Kobo's settings menu that will let you pick how you want to open books, so you won't need to uninstall the mod if you want to use the built-in reader app.)

I also just noticed that they dropped software 6.0 officially, so I think I'll be looking at that and perhaps fast-tracking the NickelMenu changes next.

Tolino doesn't have the 6.x firmware yet and I hope that the reader will just work like Nickelmenu for now.
