Windows: Fix calibre not starting in Alberta Canada because of a new timezone

Alberta Canada has a new time zone called ABT (Alberta Time). They are keeping the time set at UTC-6 and starting in November, no more clock changes. I wish everywhere did away with clock changes.

And for more joy, British Columbia has a new time zone called PCT (the C evidently has no meaning) which is a permanent offset of UTC-7.

I would have preferred UTC-8 (PST match) since in northern BC, the kids are going to be going to school before the sun rises. For instance, in Dec., 2026, sunrise will be from 9:06 AM to 9:29 AM local time. Locally sunrise will be from 8:45 AM to 9:06 AM for the same month.

People mess with timezones, often for political reasons a lot. It makes for endless joy whenever dealing with times stored in anything but UTC

I'm just curious how a timezone can prevent Calibre from starting, lol.

calibre has a database of timezones the new one wasnt in it. And the code using the database didnt fallback properly when the timezone was unknown.

Well, here kids would be going to school in winter before sunrise in any case, no matter if the time were a hour sooner or later. The sun will rise so late here in winter.

OTOH, in summer the sun would rise 3.00 AM if not for the summertime. Who wants that?

I'd prefer to have the clock set forward an hour and left there forever more. So in October when the clocks go forward, that's it done.

In October they go back. You mean the spring.

I'd be happy if the clocks just stopped. Time change always screws up my medication schedule and feel bad afterwards
