Unhappy Boox 10.3 Go Gen II Lumi Boot Loop (desperate)

Hey all,

I'm so desperate for help, I just got this 20 days ago and it took me ages to save up for. I was so so happy with it.

Then today it randomly started boot-looping. It'll be on the BOOX logo, then it'll flash to a white screen, then it'll go back to the Boox logo.

Sometimes (I'm not sure if pressing power at certain times influences this) it turns on for a couple of seconds before turning off again to the boox logo (not the 'art background' off screen). Curiously, the power options come up most of the time, as if the button is being pressed. However, it is not being pressed, nor is it jammed or stuck down in any way.

It has plenty of battery life, and it being on or off charge doesn't change anything.

No updates to my knowledge, nothing new installed, no physical damage, not done anything fancy to it.

The Boox customer support website 404s for me. I got it through Amazon and so I might hopefully be able to return it but...I don't want to. I loved this thing and, well, it's mine! I just want it working.

I don't know what to do. I'm not very tech saavy.

Please help. I'm so desperate. I don't know what to do.

I tried pressing a stapler through the little hole in the top as I thought it might be a factory reset, but it didn't do anything. Nothing I do wrt pressing the power button impacts it. I cannot get it out of the loop, even to just be 'shut down' and doing nothing.

I'm so desperate for help. I saved up so much for this.

I apologise if this is some sort of specialist forum, I see most posts are about rooting. I HAVE NOT ROOTED THE DEVICE, nor do I even know what that means. Just as an fyi. Please help. Please please please please. I'm so depressed.

Doesn't work, nothing gets it out of the boot loop.

When it does turn on sometimes the 'power options' come up, it's as if it thinks the power button is being pressed. The button itself is NOT jammed though.

It fixed itself for like 1.5 months and today it just broke again. AAAAAAGH.

I'm sorry that I missed this the first time.

I think that you might have got this diagnosed correctly with the power button.
You can try pushing it by using two fingernails, then slide your fingers apart to let the button snap back.

I don't know how hard it is to take this one apart.
If you can, it's easy to check the switch, a bit harder to replace it with the exact correct one.
Although, any competent handy repairman should be able to do a crappy job like I did on one ereader.

Funny solution!

I got switches on AliExpres to repair the power switch on a Kobo Glo. However, they are SMD's and a pain to solder correctly.

Sorry, I don't quite get what you mean by the fingernail thing. Like try and get them into the middle and then slide outwards?

Doesn't seem to do anything.

It is now broken again after having had no incidents for quite a few months.

I need to just return it really, but then idk what to do as I really love this but I don't trust Boox anymore. I don't think there's a better alternative, though ((, I hate this so much. And I've read colour e-readers are just not there yet.

I don't know how to replace the button at all, honestly. I lack the technical skill and most repair shops in the UK won't touch e-readers for whatever reason. I have asked around but they're all scared of it.

Idk if I'm just imagining things, but when it is broken and stuck in the boot loop, it feels as if the button is a bit loose/wobbly (left-right, not back-forward) such that you can almost 'see-saw' it, and make one side lower than the other. But I can't "pull it up" with tweezers etc to force ot to be normal again, it's still broken. Every time so far it has just magically fixed on its own at some point?

As I say, even if I do manage to get it to power on, it just turns itself off again straight away. So it certainly has the theoretical capacity to turn on.

I just don't know what to do still. I can't even find anyone to fix it for me, but I don't want to be e-readerless (((((((((((((((((((((((((((

Reading on my laptop all the time hurt my back.

I'm still desperate for help @everyone, I'm begging you. I can't afford for this to break, and I've got very little joy otherwise in my miserable life atm.

Something very strange is that I've managed to just (after a bit over an hour) stabilise it by pressing my mouth around the power button (to create a vaccum) and sucking to try and 'pull up' the button. IDK if it'll stay stable, I've not touched the power button since.

I did try this earlier on in the hour, but it didn't work. Maybe I just got a better, er, suck this time?

When I didn't do this--when it first broke months and months ago--it just stayed in boot loop for like 2 days, so it's not necessarily self-fixing.

Why would anyone try to repair a faulty, recently purchased device?
Shit happens and Boox seems to have a quality control (if at all) that does something else than controlling every unit before shipping.

Back to Amazon to get your money back or a new device as replacement.

If I buy something and it does not do what it's supposed to do, I contact the seller, if I get a resonable discount and the thing(s), the device does not do, is/are not important for me, I keep the device. Otherwise I returnn it to get my money back.

I meant pushing in the power button and try to make it snap back.
Not just releasing softly with your finger.

You're taxing my (modest) drawing talents.

ereaders nowadays are kind of a pain to open.
In the old days a thumbnail could open them.
I've opened a bunch of Nooks and all my Onyx.
