I have been using ereaders since 2010ish. I had a sony ereader that lasted me a very long time. Then in 2018ish I got a Kobo Libra and I fell in love with that. I never really cared to upgrade my ereaders for the longest time but then I heard about color ereaders and I got a Kobo Libra Color in 2025. This is also the first time in 15 years I decided to toy around with KOReader. I was already proficient with Calibre and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about KOReader.

Then about two months after getting my KLC I decided to get a Kindle(PW12se) to 'see how the other side lives', if you will. I ended up hating it so much. The Amazon walled garden was so lame and even though I could email books to my Kindle I hate how they edited my epubs I sent over and made them look worse. I ended up quitting after a week. I looked into setting up KOReader on my Kindle and it wasn't that hard. Three days later Kindle would update its firmware and I don't think it has been cracked yet(I could be wrong)

And finally, this year in July I got one of those XTEINK X4 micro ereaders. I was sold by a bunch of influencers making videos. It was neat for about a month until the novelty wore off and then I was back to my Kindle. I love the idea of this tiny ereader but the truth is I was never in a situation where my KLC or Kindle was too much of an encumbrance to ever necessitate the purchase of this device. I definitely regret it the most.

As for which I like better? I mean I mostly just read epub novels and they look better on the Paperwhite than on the KLC. The majority of my time is spent on the Kindle but I use the KLC to read Calvin and Hobbes. I used to have to go to KLC for Libby as I'm Canadian but I found a KOReader plugin that makes Libby work on the Kindle in Canada so I don't even need to open the KLC outside of Calvin and Hobbes.

To answer your question directly, I currently have a Kobo Libra Color, a Kindle Paperwhite 12th generation signature edition, and a XTEINK X4.

Thank you for an interesting thread and many good questions from MR members.
I am interested in the Boox Go 7.
Is it possible to adjust the font weight?
Does it have a good dictionary? I read mostly in English and English is my second language.

Yes, the font weight is adjustable - see photo.

The supplied dictionary is the 1913 Webster, so, no, it's not good. However, it's possible to load additional dictionaries. It supports multiple formats. Examples given in the relevant app are StarDict, MDict, Deep Blue Dictionary, Babylon etc. I've loaded a Kobo dictionary, and use that.

All current Kindle firmwares are jailbreakable, on all but the 2025 Scribes, IIRC. If you want to jailbreak then there's not a better time. kindlemodding.org has a listing of recent jailbreaks and guides.

That's about six years old? What's the display on it?
They are kind of light on quoting specifications.

I'll keep my Onyx Go6 (1st gen, Carta 1300). I don't use their applications.

My first ereader was a Sony 650 back in 2010. I traded that in for a Sony T1 in 2011. I kept that for several years and gave it to my cousin when I got the Kobo Libre H20 in 2020 which I still have.

My brother gifted me the Boox Go 7 II for Christmas last year, I like it.

However, my Kobo will no longer connect to my pc, so I can no longer add new books to it. So, I am on the search for another ereader.

I don't want a color one since the contrast is unacceptable to me. I like the 7" form factor but I don't want to travel with my Boox due to the glass screen, even though I have it in a case.

I'm seriously looking at the Kobo Clara B&W to become my traveling reader, what other readers would make a good traveler for when I go out of town. While it will be in a case, it would be sitting in my backpack, which is occasionally manhandled.

Do you mean USB? Yeah, the poor connectors take a bit of usage.
I'd look into cleaning or replacing it. Pre-Type C it's not that bad.

I just cracked the screen on my two year-old phone and considered a new phone.
But I looked around and I didn't need whatever they were all selling.
So I replaced the screen myself, which wasn't too bad but it took a lot of time to do it properly.
While I was at it I threw in a new battery since you have to unglue the old one anyway.

Yes, I mean the USB, all it will do now is charge the reader but won't connect to my pc.

Well aren't you handy! I don't have that kind of patience anymore. It's easier just to get a new reader.

Pardon, but you can still and anyway buy the books on the store, and download them directly from device throughout wifi.
Also (imho) check that the cable features data transfer, not all does.

Some of us want to edit our books and/or use calibre for transfer, so downloading from the store is not good enough.

I never managed to convince my mac mini and android ereader to talk via usb, to I'm using Koreader for wireless transfer. If you have it installed on kobo, you can try that, not that I'm discouraging you from getting new ereader. It's always good to have a reason for new ereader

I have 2 recent e-readers because I need a backup in case one goes. I had a Sage and a very old Onyx which is probably on its way out. A jailbreak became available, so I picked up a paperwhite. Its battery is a 100 times better than the Sage, so it will be much better for travelling, but the Sage screen is nicer so it is suitable for home use.

This is a longshot, but just in case.

I had a similar problem with my Aura One. It would connect briefly, then disconnect although it would charge. Other things were flaky; it would direct download my Kobo books but it wouldn’t update. Nothing of the usual fixes worked, but I figured I could live with the issues. Then one day I did a massive purge of books I knew I wasn’t going to read anytime soon, and voila! Everything worked. It connected to my computer, it did system updates, the full sync. Obviously a faulty book file was causing all the problems.
