The Redemption Center is Closed on Sundays by Andrea Hairston is $3 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
New release.
Quote:
In the Heart of Mystery Lies Redemption...

Every Sunday, Oona the St. Berdoodle and her current owner, Zsuzsu, make their way through the winding paths of the State Park to the enigmatic Redemption Center—a place often mistaken for a haunted mansion.

When a local celebrity is found murdered, the unexpected brings Oona together with a rag-tag group of local misfits. Together they venture into the depths of the Center's mystery to untangle the threads of murder and deception.

But Oona holds two secrets: she’s a citizen of the multiverse, able to travel between dimensions at will, and more importantly, she knows the killer's identity. Unfortunately, the killer knows she knows, and he’s determined to find her and silence her for good.

An extra-dimensional murder mystery with conundrums, alien tricksters, and a dog detective who just doesn’t know the meaning of “stay”.

Sublimation by Isabel J. Kim is £1 in the UK (Kobo, Amazon)
New release. An expansion of the short story Homecoming is Just Another Word for the Sublimation of the Self (which I think pivots into a thriller).
Quote:
The international bestseller. A masterful tale of doppelgängers, betrayal and uncovering who you are.'A mind bending thriller about personhood, homeland nostalgia, global migration, and all forms of alienation' – R. F. Kuang, author of Yellowface and Katabasis

When you emigrate, you leave a version of yourself behind. One instance crosses the border; the other instance stays trapped behind it.

Some instances keep in touch, call each other daily, synchronize their lives and minds in the hopes of reintegrating and resuming a life as one person. Other instances, like Soyoung Rose Kang, leave home at age ten and never speak to their other selves again.

With a life of her own in New York, Rose never imagined she’d return to Korea. Then her grandfather dies and Soyoung, her Korean instance, summons her home for the funeral.

But Soyoung’s motives aren’t as innocent as Rose imagined, and the consequences of Rose’s return to Seoul will change her forever.

Soyoung plans to steal her body – and her life.

From Nebula Award-winning author Isabel J. Kim, Sublimation is an immigrant tale like no other, capturing the longing for another life and twisting it into a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse.

What We Are Seeking by Cameron Reed is $3 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
New release.
Quote:
A New Yorker Best Book of 2026

From Cameron Reed, the acclaimed author of The Fortunate Fall, comes a soaring novel of queer hope and transformation, perfect for readers of Ann Leckie and Amal El-Mohtar.

On the planet Scythia, plants give birth to insects and trees can drag you to your death. Artificial monsters stalk the desert, and alien basket-men have wandered into town.

John Maraintha has been abandoned here, light-years from the peaceful forests that he loves.

The desert is harsh and the people in thrall to a barbaric custom called marriage.

He must find some way to make a life here.

But on Scythia, survival means transformation—and not everyone is willing to change.

And Side by Side They Wander by Molly Tanzer is $3 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
Novella. New release.
Quote:
An intergalactic art heist by a ragtag group of underqualified misfits. What could go wrong?

For three hundred years, humanity’s greatest works of art have been on loan at the Greenwood Museum. It was finally time for them to come home...but the alien curators were disinclined to return them.

Force was out of the question. Earth’s government was clear: They were not going to press the issue. So, all we had was guile and hubris to fuel our little intergalactic art heist.

My old friend Tarquin was our leader, but not the captain. That was Tchik-tchik, though whether Tchik-tchik was our insectoid pilot’s name or species is still unclear to me. Misora, with her extremely illegal biotech mods, was our muscle.

Jack was there to hack the security systems of the biggest museum in the galaxy. He was a sensynth, a sentient synthetic being, and the most powerful machine intelligence on Earth uncorrupted by alien technology.

My name is Fennel Tycho. I’d like to tell you I was there because of my expertise in Art History. Truth is, I was there because without me, Jack would not have agreed to go. He was notorious for being difficult to work with—but it was a mistake to think I could make things any easier.

A meditation on the nature of love, life, and the "culture of the copy," And Side by Side They Wander asks the question: In a future where there are clones, androids, and a sentient mycelium that creates fungal simulacra, who is real and what is fake?

Can Bastian overcome the barrier between reality and his imagination in order to save Fantastica?
Retribution Falls (Tales of the Ketty Jay #1) by Chris Wooding is $2 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
2009 steampunk series.
Quote:
Sky piracy is a bit out of Darian Frey’s league. Fate has not been kind to the captain of the airship Ketty Jay—or his motley crew. They are all running from something. Crake is a daemonist in hiding, traveling with an armored golem and burdened by guilt. Jez is the new navigator, desperate to keep her secret from the rest of the crew. Malvery is a disgraced doctor, drinking himself to death. So when an opportunity arises to steal a chest of gems from a vulnerable airship, Frey can’t pass it up. It’s an easy take—and the payoff will finally make him a rich man.

But when the attack goes horribly wrong, Frey suddenly finds himself the most wanted man in Vardia, trailed by bounty hunters, the elite Century Knights, and the dread queen of the skies, Trinica Dracken. Frey realizes that they’ve been set up to take a fall but doesn’t know the endgame. And the ultimate answer for captain and crew may lie in the legendary hidden pirate town of Retribution Falls. That’s if they can get there without getting blown out of the sky.
The Book of Swords edited by Gardner Dozois is $2 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
Contents: https://isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?627252
Quote:
New epic fantasy in the grand tradition—including a never-before-published Song of Ice and Fire story by George R. R. Martin!

Fantasy fiction has produced some of the most unforgettable heroes ever conjured onto the page: Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian, Michael Moorcock’s Elric of Melniboné, Fritz Leiber’s Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser. Classic characters like these made sword and sorcery a storytelling sensation, a cornerstone of fantasy fiction—and an inspiration for a new generation of writers, spinning their own outsize tales of magic and swashbuckling adventure.

Now, in The Book of Swords, acclaimed editor and bestselling author Gardner Dozois presents an all-new anthology of original epic tales by a stellar cast of award-winning modern masters—many of them set in their authors’ best-loved worlds. Join today’s finest tellers of fantastic tales, including George R. R. Martin, K. J. Parker, Robin Hobb, Scott Lynch, Ken Liu, C. J. Cherryh, Daniel Abraham, Lavie Tidhar, Ellen Kushner, and more on action-packed journeys into the outer realms of dark enchantment and intrepid derring-do, featuring a stunning assortment of fearless swordsmen and warrior women who face down danger and death at every turn with courage, cunning, and cold steel.

Coffeeshop in an Alternate Universe by C. B. Lee is $2 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
Quote:
A geeky overachiever determined to save the world through science and a troublemaking chosen one lashing out against her destiny meet and fall in love in a magical coffeeshop as their two very different universes begin to collide in Coffeeshop in an Alternate Universe, C.B. Lee's fun, sapphic, cozy fantasy YA romance.

When Brenda’s internet goes out right before an important scholarship deadline, she stumbles right into Kat’s family’s coffeeshop. Brenda is swept away by cool, confident Kat, who actually cares about Brenda’s 19-step plan to save the world through science. Meanwhile, Kat can’t stop thinking about Brenda, who is smart, passionate, and doesn’t seem to care that Kat is the prophesized Chosen One.

The only problem? Kat and Brenda are from different universes. Like need-to-find-a-portal-to-go-on-a-second-date different universes.

As their universes collide and things spiral out of control, can a girl who is determined to save the world find love with a girl determined to outrun her destiny?

Could we shove a few more buzzwords in there? I don't think that synopsis is SEO enough.

I think this is less about SEO and more about YA and romance is marketed these days: using tropes and AO3 tags.

The book won this year's Lodestar Award for best YA novel, which is presented together with the Hugos.

The third part will be released at the end of the year.
A Hole in The Sky (Kobo, Amazon)
The Captain's Daughter (Kobo, Amazon)
Quote:
From internationally bestselling author Peter F. Hamilton comes the first in a new, coming of age trilogy where life on a generation ship takes a turn for the worst when the delicate cycle of life is disturbed... A great read for fans of Alastair Reynolds and Miles Cameron.

THEIR LIFE IS A DREAM, THEIR WORLD IS DYING.

Hazel’s family live a simple life in their village. Just one of the communities on a vast generation ship on a centuries long journey to a new world. 500 years ago the machines stopped working and life since then has been frugal. But everyone plays their part. And when you reach 65 you are recycled – it’s only fair; you can’t work anymore and your resources are needed.

But not everyone is happy. Hazel encounters the Cheaters, a group who refuse to die for the ship. They have discovered the terrifying lie at the core of life on the ship and they will fight for the truth and for the lives of everyone.

Hazel has a choice to make…

"...rollicking prose..." ??? Really ???

"Rollicking most commonly means lively, carefree, and full of noisy, cheerful fun."

My example: I had a rollicking good time combing my hair this morning.

Ok, Ok, Ok: I'll try to stop. Has anyone read the first book in this series? And should I wear a seat-belt when reading it? (Full disclosure: I took off my safety harness when I settled down to read Jerusalem).

Dang. Wish it were on Kobo.

On the other hand, I have...*checks library* three unread books by Alan Moore already, so perhaps I should work on those instead.
