KUALA - Kindle Unified Application Launcher After (Java)

A full C++ rewrite of KUAL (Kindle Unified Application Launcher). It uses the Kindle's native GTK for the UI.

The original Java based KUAL stopped working on system versions starting at 5.19.4. This rewrite is made for system versions 5.19.x and later, but it will also work on many earlier versions as long as they are armhf.

Nice! I gave it a try on my Scribe 2022 running 5.19.6, but it fails due to calling a missing library. That seems to be a constant problem with the Scribes.

/mnt/us/kuala/kuala: error while loading shared libraries: libbz2.so.1.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

It can't even start up enough to open and begin writing to run.log.

Don't worry, I just uploaded version 1.1 that should fix it. Abiword will be fixed this weekend too.

KUALA is amazing! Very fast and reliable.
But there's one drawback: you can't combine multiple identical menu items into one.
Like the original KUAL or KUAL Next. The difference visible in attachments.

Hey thanks for the feedback. Mergen noticed that too and I fixed it. Here's a test release of version 1.2. Please try it and let me know.

Yes, it works perfectly! Thank you for fast response.

Another one (but cosmetic) issue — left bullet.
Its looking up and works like "/" in in submenu (KUAL).
I just forgot to mention it in previous post…

I hadn't noticed when I posted my screenshot but it is hard limited to 10 items per screen in the pageSize variable. That's a lot of dead space on a Scribe. I can see that devices are ID'd so it would be handy to set the size based on that.

Good call Frogm4n! Yes, since there's already hardware detection implemented, I will see how many entries fit on a Scribe and then make it show more when a Scribe is detected.

Also, I have gone down a huge rabbit hole implementing Lua support into KUALA. It is getting more and more complex. I don't know when to stop with it really. Right now people will be able to make full GUI scripts, applications, or even games. It scans for .lua files and has a menu entry for Lua. I am working on some tech demos for it currently before release. It has a lot of Kindle specific functions so I need to release kind of a reference manual for it.
