Do you have a Kobo remote for your reader?

She loves the new Clara and now thinks she'd like the remote.

What's your experience with it?

Is this something we might find as a Black Friday deal?

You might want to check Kobo's web page for any possible sale prices.

I have one and it works well but not something I use all that often. OTOH, I have helped 3 people with health issues set their remotes up. The health issues basically preclude them from being to handhold their Kobos so using a holder for the ereader and turning pages with the remote makes it a lot easier for them to read.

I ordered one as soon as they were announced, and I love it. It's very pleasant to hold and works just fine.

Kobo does not have a track record of putting accessories on sale very often, and I'd be very suprised to see it go on sale this year.

How do you manage BT and wifi turning on together? Turning wifi back off and back off; does that bug you?

I just leave them both on. It would bug me to keep turning them on and off, but the battery life is still very good on my Clara 2e and pretty good on my Libra 2 with both on, so I just leave it that way.

I installed nickel menu and use it to toggle bluetooth on and off. Wifi does not turn on if you do it this way. All sorts of useful details in this thread. You do not need to install the bluetooth plugin for the Kobo remote, or even the 8bitdo micro. You will need nickel menu, instructions for which are in the Nickel Menu thread.

I have the following in my config file to make it work. Where you see xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx replace it with the Kobo Remote's MAC address, or the MAC address of your bluetooth device.
menu_item :main :Bluetooth On :nickel_bluetooth :enable
menu_item :main :Bluetooth Off :nickel_bluetooth :disable
menu_item :reader :Bluetooth Connect :nickel_wifi :enable
chain_success :nickel_wifi :autoconnect_silent
chain_success :nickel_bluetooth :enable
chain_success :nickel_wifi :disable
chain_success :cmd_spawn :bluetoothctl connect xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
menu_item :reader :Bluetooth Off :nickel_bluetooth :disable

I initially purchased one for my Libra Colour, and eventually gave both the Libra and remote to my wife because I wanted a smaller model.

So I ended up buying a Clara Colour but not the remote with it. It might be because the Clara has no physical button or that I just missed using the remote, but a week later I had to buy a new one for the Clara as well!

Helpful and informative. I might do this.

One thing stuck out, though: second to last line. Is the term 'bluetoothctl' correct? The'ctl' caught my eye.

Edit: nevermind. I see from reading at that link that the term is correct.
