Jailbroke my Kindle Oasis 3 last night, now what?
I'm not sure if this is the best place to post or in the developer's forum, so apologies if I got it wrong, mods are welcome to move this.
I had no intention of jailbreaking a Kindle, but yesterday afternoon, heard about a jailbreak that was supposedly super easy AND works with KOA3 (my spare refurb, battery challenged Kindle). SpiderCat: (https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaking/SpiderCat/). I've never rooted a device, never hacked one, never patched a Kobo. So super easy sounded intriguing. AND, I was feeling annoyed, having heard that Amazon had recently gone out of their way to put out a firmware update 5.18.2.1.1 for the Oasis 3 to cement in their DRM. I thought I'd draw the line and keep mine on 5.18.2. This inspired me to just do it. I filled the device up with old videos of my cats, and when there was 50mb free left, I popped on the jailbreak via USB. Other than me not realizing I had to OPEN the book to start the jailbreak process (yes, I sat and stared at the screen for a few minutes first), all went smoothly. But now I'm lost. I would like to try out KOReader and perhaps disable the screensaver ads on the device. Supposedly, SpiderCat has disabled updates, supposedly it comes with something called KPM and I can just use that to install KOReader according to: https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaki...-homebrew.html But I know I've heard or read something about the MobileRead Package Installer and KUAL, do I need those, or is that outmoded now? What I want is EASE OF USE. I want to be able to switch back and forth between the Kindle store and Kindle reader (Amazon experience) and KOReader easily, so that I can read Kindle books in my accounts, use Send-to-Kindle for EPUB testing, get monthly Prime freebies if any appeal. For KOReader, I want to enjoy SMALLER MARGINS and the ability to make more use of the 7" screen. Swiping to change brightness would be nice. Reading EPUB directly, also nice. If it's possible to EASILY hook into Dropbox or Google Drive for wireless transfer, not against that, but it's not critical. So, what's the best way to achieve what I want, and in what order to I go about things? Do all these different things like MRPI and KUAL and KPM get along, or is it best to do one or the other approach? Simple is good. Explain to someone who has ZERO experience with any of this kind of thing and is not conversant with hacking/modding lingo. |

You do not need KUAL or MRPI anymore, install stuff now with KPM only. You can tap a book in our library to launch koreader once it is installed.

That link you posted, just click "Get Koreader" for instructions.
MobileRead Package Installer and KUAL are not needed if you just want koreader. You may need to restart or install koreader twice. |

But, after launching KOReader by tapping a book, how do I switch back to regular Amazon reader/store experience when I'm done reading in KOReader? And I presume it's safe to delete my video filler files now and resume regular wifi operations as needed? I checked, there are no untoward .bin files present. |

In KOReader:
swipe down from top right, tap the hamburger icon, tap exit, tap exit koreader and yes, you can delete filler files now |

Thanks so much, I'll try getting KOReader on the device, see how that goes for a bit. |

Don't forget to add whatever add-in is to prevent your Kindle from getting a new firmware pushed to it,

At any rate, KOReader is now successfully on the Kindle, and I've read and probably partially digested the quick start guide. I'll try putting some books on later. I'm actually quite curious to see what KOReader does with one of my homebrew epubs! But my eyes are tired from yesterday, so maybe not today. I might explore some KOReader plugins, as I didn't realize that it doesn't have a home screen, which I think I'd prefer. |

If you want a cover view instead of a file manager just:
In koreader file manager view > swipe down from top see menu > file cabinet icon > Display > Cover view with mosaic |
