Personally, I think my friend has more money than sense. His new laptop is a Lenovo P16 Gen 3 Core Ultra 9, 64GB, 2TB (you can hear those lonesome dollars whistling by...). He's retiring at the end of the year and basically wanted a device that would last for at least 5 years but did not want Windows or MacOS. Sadly, I can't check just how good the WiFi is since my access point is a WiFi-6 and the laptop is WiFi-7.

By comparison, it was cheaper than the top MacBook Pro M5 Max by a rounding error ($6899 compared to $6999 Cdn). More memory though and the PCIe5 SSD is rather fast. The 180W power adapter is actually smaller and cooler than I expected, which I suspect due to the GaN power semiconductors.
