Without warning, a dormant and carefree personality from his youth awakens, causing him to carry out astonishing and hilarious indiscretions. The frantic efforts of his nephew and his faithful valet to save his reputation under very difficult circumstances are most entertaining.

Henry de Vere Stacpoole (9 April 1863 – 12 April 1951) was an Irish author who began publishing in 1894, sometimes using the pseudonym Tyler de Saix. After the success of his 1908 romance novel The Blue Lagoon, Stacpoole’s fame and recognition skyrocketed. Throughout his extensive career, he authored more than sixty books, predominantly in the fiction genre, exploring diverse settings, encompassing ancient Athens, Iceland, the Greek islands, France, and Oceania, among others.

Margaret Anne Stacpoole (1870 — 1934) was Henry’s first wife. In addition to co-authoring this book, she wrote the novel Monte Carlo (1913).
