The Overnight Price Jump
Amazon has officially upgraded their prices, and not by just a few dollars.

$ 40.00 more for the 2024 Basic. 109.99 to 149.00 with ads, 169.00 without ads. Quite a jump.

Same for Paperwhites and Colorsoft - 40.00 increase overnight, with the Signature Paperwhite going up $50.00.

Only one that seems untouched I believe are the Scribes.

Colorsoft Signature Edition now $320.00 - yikes. In Canada someone said the Colorsoft there just raised $90

I heard it has not changed yet, or if it will, in the UK. So far I believe it's just US and Canada

Edited to add - but this just happened overnight, so it's possible it will jump everywhere and just has not yet.

IF I buy another kindle, I will likely do what I did with my 11th gen PW5...wait to pick one up on a good deal via woot. But that is IF I buy another kindle. I am actually hoping Kobo will eventually re-release the b&w libra 2 as I have no need of the color version. But, for now I have an Oasis 3 that still works (battery is not completely useless) and the PW5.

I am assuming the price increases are in part due to rampocalypse (aka blame the data centers). I am so lucky I built a new pc last October just before prices skyrocketed.

I got my mini-PC (32GB) in July and my second laptop (24GB) in December.

The mini-PC was to replace an old desktop that the power button on the case stopped working and it was rather slow. The laptop was to replace my MS Surface Pro 2. That works, but again, it's slow. I used the surface mostly on vacation.

I've had a look online not too long ago and the mini-PC is more expensive with only 16GB and 512GB storage. Mine has 1TB storage.

AI needs to drop dead so we can get ram prices back under control.

In UK, DE, FR and IT only the reference prices went up, and previous reference prices became the discount prices. For example Kindle 11 (without ads) still costs 104,99 GBP, but now it's a 'discount' from 149,99 GBP.

In PL, prices went up and there is no 'discount'.

Everything with memory chips has gone up. Apple TV 4k with ethernet went up 100 bucks recently.

Best Buy immediately increased their colorsoft price in line with amazon. Target still has a the old price, according to google.

When Apple raised their prices I immediately went to John Lewis and bought an iPad Pro 11” M5 as John Lewis still had the old price. It’s well worth hunting around.

Prediction: "Under control" means "stop rising". Prices aren't going to go back down. We are at the new normal price point.

It looks like they did an "Apple" on the Kindle Basic. Doubled the memory and then jumped the price. Could they have partially negated the need for the price increase by keeping the RAM the same?
