Looks like the Oasis 3 has finally been touched...a 5.18.2.1.1 firmware is now listed
Previously the Oasis 3 (10th gen) could still dedrm the old way as a new firmware update had not been released unlike many of the other models. But there is now a 5.18.2.1.1 listed on the Amazon page: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...MQC26VQQMM8XSW

I personally won't be testing it since I jailbroke and did the renameotabin to prevent updates. But I'm assuming this means drm is touched now.

Oh, no! That's my Oasis version. Yikes. I hate pretty much every new update feature they've come out the past year as well that I see on Reddit. But yes it's probably more behind the scenes stuff.

That technique only worked with some devices where the firmware could download and run diagnostic tools. A purpose which Amazon perverted into updating the DRM.

Had wifi on in koreader and suddenly I saw my KOA3 was applying this new update. FML. RIP. I am now determining which kobo to buy and dumping this device.

why 'dump' a perfectly working device? just continue using it and when the times comes to buy a new one, avoid kindle altogether. Also, had you not renamed the thingies?

Just a good reason to get out. Already bought a clara BW. It's the principle of it that was the last straw for me. I'm not sure -- I must not have renamed the 'thingies'. I hadn't had any issues since I jailbroke it a year or two ago and then suddenly, voila.

but seriously, is not like Amazon continues to make money from you using the kindle, I understand you already purchased the other one but, just use both of them.

I have Samsung TV, I would not give them money for a new one now but I am keeping mine until it doesn't work anymore.
