This is an new book, and a significant price drop from $14.28, but not the usual deep discounts I post.

The Felicity Complex by August Clarke is $6 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
Quote:
Annie Bot meets Fallout in this dystopian satire: six women created in a lab, designed to serve the billionaires of the future in a luxury fallout shelter, rebel against their programming after the end times arrive.

Welcome to the Felicity Complex! Constructed during the height of the Cold War, our unique hotel is prepared to protect you, the billionaire class, from nuclear annihilation! Shielded from radiation and supplemented with closed air systems and hydroponic gardens, this resort bunker offers a prime existence underground: full gymnasium and spa, gourmet meals, top-tier medical care, and the best in entertainment.

Meet Hallelujah! Grown in a lab and educated in the ways of concierge hospitality, she believes in her duty to comfort the Lord-anointed refugees of the apocalypse. (Even if her lover Anastasia disagrees. Even if her creator Dr. Younghusband is disappointed in her.) Don’t worry—everyone is safe from communists in the Felicity Complex!

Look, Hallelujah, guests have finally arrived! Hallelujah and her sister specimens have waited ages for you. Never mind the secrets other rich survivalists may be hiding. Just make sure they don’t notice the violent intentions behind our staff’s wide, wide smiles…

A sendup of traditional womanhood and lampooning the paranoias of the elite, The Felicity Complex questions the ambitions behind the entitled few who plan for the end times—and who truly survives them.

A Thousand Deaths by George Alec Effinger is $2 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
Novel and stories featuring Sandor Courane.
Recommended by Joachim Boaz in this review from a few weeks ago
Quote:
Science fiction stories that offer "a poignant glimpse into the author's psyche . . . this bittersweet collection [is] one to be cherished" ( Publishers Weekly).
When we first meet Courane, he must face down TECT, the self-aware computer that has come to control Earth and its colonial planets. Exiled to Planet D, Courane races to cure the debilitating disease that attacks each of the planet's residents, even as his own memory begins to fade. Unfortunately, his only source of information about the illness is TECT itself, and the computer's agenda doesn't seem to line up with Courane's.
In the seven other stories contained in A Thousand Deaths, Courane begins to blur reality and fiction as Effinger expertly plays with narrative conventions. However, these are not simply the whims of a science fiction writer; they are the frameworks the Nebula and Hugo Award–nominated author uses to answer questions about existence no one else even thought to ask.

While George Alec Effinger's Budayeen novel When Gravity Fails is perhaps his most famous work, his lesser-known novel The Wolves of Memory remained his favorite. In it, he introduced readers to Sandor Courane, an everyman and Effinger stand-in who struggles as he swims against the currents of fate. In life and in his multiple deaths, Sandor Courane serves as the unifying force in this collection of Effinger's stories, starting with The Wolves of Memory and getting ever more clever and off the wall from there.

Bog Standard Isekai: Scarred by Miles English is FREE at Amazon today.

UK Link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bog-Standar.../dp/B0D3S8Q2SB
A guess at the US Link: https://www.amazon.com/Bog-Standard-.../dp/B0D3S8Q2SB

This is the first book in a self-published (or maybe small press) LitRPG series, so I apologise to Hollow Man, but I have read it and very much enjoyed it. It definitely feels more of a complete book than other broken up web serials.

Books 2-4 are also discounted to 0.99, but I haven't yet read those. Book 5 is just released, and is the reason for the sale. The series is ongoing. (All books are also on KU.)

It is not intended to be a comedy. The title does have an in-world explanation.

Quote:
Sometimes dying isn’t even the worst part of your day.

Mark’s new life begins in the worst possible place—a burned-out village haunted by undead. Each morning these ravenous creatures disappear, only to return at night, driven by a relentless hunger. He'll need to stay low and think quick, because trapped and alone in the body of a child, he can’t level up in this new world. At least not yet.

Soon Mark will learn that even among the living, safety isn’t guaranteed. When the small town that he ends up in turns out to be at the center of a conspiracy that threatens the world, he'll need to uncover the truth before it's too late. Mark will need to find allies, gain levels, and face countless horrors in order to survive his second shot at life and prove that he's more than just a bog-standard hero...

With over 4 million views on Royal Road, this is no ordinary LitRPG. Bog Standard Isekai is a slow-burn, incremental, magical progression fantasy containing slice-of-life elements punctuated by moments of intense violence.

I'm going to have to read this. In exhaustion from yet another comedic episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds, I picked an older episode at random to watch Monday night. I landed on Season 2's "Among the Lotus Eaters." It has a plot that I would be willing to swear was lifted directly from this concept.

If you are disappointed with a SNW episode, I would not recommend watching another one at random - it's unlikely to make you hopeful about that show. But a book is a good bet

I would not persevere, but just as haven't saw the links already mentioned, just posting for reference: while there are several (but not all) works by Robert Howard on public domain, there are some collected ones for about 0,89$, as:
Conan The Barbarian - Collected Adventures (Illustrated)

Synopsis

Revised and updated edition with custom illustrations!

Join Conan on his many adventures from mercenary and thief to king as he smites demons, fights wizards, battles against all odds, journeys to exotic lands, loves and lusts, uncovers hidden mysteries, and always refuses to yield!

This epic collection contains 18 of Robert E. Howard's stories about Conan the Barbarian.

These stories were originally published in Weird Tales magazine between 1933 and 1936.
[...]
As an added bonus, also included in the set are:

Cimmeria—A Poem
The Hyborian Age—Conan's World (This is Howard's background essay on the world of Conan)

For ease of navigation, the anthology includes an interactive table of contents.

The stories in this collection are ordered roughly in chronological order from Conan's first adventures as a young mercenary adventurer and thief to his final epic clashes as a king and are based on the Rippke chronology.

Conan - The Definitive Edition (Book 1)

There's also a lot of public domain stuff out there.

You should also check Mobileread's Library for some freebies. (I put something together YEARS [!!] ago.)

You may wish to check out another inexpensive choice: The Delphi collection of Robert E. Howard.

Knight's Wyrd by Debra Doyle is $3 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
Quote:
Ahead of its time on its original publication, Debra Doyle and James D. Macdonald's Mythopoeic Fantasy Award-winning dark medieval fantasy Knight's Wyrd is perfect for contemporary tastes.
Tor Essentials presents new editions of science fiction and fantasy titles of proven merit and lasting value, each volume introduced by an appropriate literary figure.
With an introduction written for this edition by Sherwood Smith.
On the eve of his knighting, Will Odosson learns his wyrd, or destiny: He shall meet death before a year has passed. Will rushes north to release his betrothed from their engagement, but on the way he is beset by all manner of horrors--a man-eating troll, carnivorous mermaids, a magic-working dragon . . . and something far worse: an evil unlike anything Will ever imagined.
Knight's Wyrd is an award-winning gem that's perfect for revival as a Tor Essential and will appeal to fans of books like Hild and Spear, and films like The Green Knight–-a medieval fantasy with the authentic lived-in strangeness of the real Middle Ages. It was originally published by a pair of YA imprints, but it works equally well as an adult read.
At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

I've purchased some "Complete Conan Collection" books on-the-cheap in the past and have always found them disappointing, usually due to obviously cheap production and mediocre typesetting.

These days I just put the Random House/Del Ray editions on my wishlist and grab them when they go on sale. They're well-produced, and I like the value adds of the illustrations and commentary.
