Thank you! Copying Update_hotfix_universal.bin to the root folder and running the kindle update from from the menu while inside the settings menu worked and KUAL and KOReader are launching fine now!

Hi. I have a PW2 (sixth generation) that I had previously jailbroken with Niluje's and is running the screensaver cover hack. But there are some issues with the screen sometimes fading out at the edges and I want to do a factory reset and then update the firmware to the latest, which I think is 5.12.2.2. So do I now need to install Winter Break? Do I need to reinstall the jailbreak and everything again? My main interest is really just to get the cover screensaver.

I seem to have stabbled myself in the back. I'm encountering 2 errors which are currently making it impossible for me to fix on my Kindle PW1.

I installed usbnet then in KUAL I told it to enable ssh over wifi, start ssh on boot, use openssh and replace the store button. At some point I restarted the device. Upon reboot issue #1 popped up. Once again KUAL is telling me the certificate is not from an authorized developer even though I'd previously bypassed that by installed the 2025 devcheck package. Pressing the store button gives me an identical certificate error.

Now issue #2 pops up. Plugging the usb plug in no longer puts the device into usb drive mode (when plugged into my linux pc if it's relevant). I can ssh to root@ip on wifi and get to the password prompt but have no idea what the password is. Perplexity says it's some variant of the serial number? It's suggestions have been useless. ;debugOn followed by ~usbNetwork then when that failed it changed it to `usbNetwork which also didn't seem to do anything so rather then spin my wheels I figured best to admit to stupidity and request assistance.

*update* I finally found a post about using ";un" which at no point perplexity mentioned to turn off usb network so it would go back to usb drive mode which allowed me to flash the uninstall of usbnet via ;log mrpi command. Think I can fumble my way from here. *famous last words*

Thank you for this guide.

I have a UK PW1 (B024 16) and I followed the instructions (except I forgot to download KOreader).

As I understand it, when I downloaded the K5 jailbreak, I did not need to manually download mkk.

I downloaded the Jailbreak hotfix after updating back up to 5.6.1.1.

Anyway, when I tap the Kindle Launcher, all I get is the error message, 'This item is not signed by an authorised developer. Please contact the developer.' - what have I done wrong here?

I downgraded to 5.3.3 then installed kindle-5.4-jailbreak. After seeing the jailbreak I installed the K5 devcert - you know what, after going through what I did, I realised I forgot to download the MRPI because when I followed the page, all the downloads had been moved to the snapshot thread, and I went straight to downloading KUAL.

Can I just downgrade back to 5.3.3 or do I have to start from scratch?

Thank you

You'll probably find more up to date info and newer jailbreaks on https://kindlemodding.org/ Although I initially used this site several things like the new universal hotfix that adds shell scripts showing as books are not covered here.

I used their guide but sadly I had the same issue, do they have a forum I can ask on?

@DontoKoi Which version of KUAL did you use? :

1) .azw2 file that goes into "documents" directory ( = "kindlet" version of KUAL)
2) installed KUAL via (non-Coplate) installer bin file that you put into "mrpackages" directory and then run the installer using MRPI ( = "booklet" version of KUAL)

And where did you download jailbreak hotfix and KUAL archive? Snapshots thread here or Kindlemodding.org guide links? Both things from the same source or not?

Anyways, you should use booklet version of KUAL on a PW1.

Hi Shaman when I first tried with Kindle Modding, I used their toolkit which advised what I should use before starting (I think it was WinterBreak 2), and then followed along. After it didn't work for me, I reset my Kindle and used the files on this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=225030

Both had me put them in 'documents', the most recent is the KUALbooklet version 2.7.3.7.

Maybe I should be putting it in MrPackages? I'll give it a go. Thank you.

Unfortunately I put my Kindle somewhere when I thought all hope was lost, and also unfortunately I have a terrible memory and have no recollection of where it is. But I will try this when I find it.
