Am I the only idiot who bought the Palma 2 Pro?

What a huge disappointment.

I am losing battery at an astonishing rate.

100% charge, no apps running, no WiFi, no Bluetooth. It is at 80% in the morning.

The only thing that stops draining the battery is having it on airplane mode.

No real manual for it, just some generic crap.

None of the usual tricks to get developer mode either.

I am holding off in hopes of finding a solution to the battery issue. And I've never used custom launchers on any device, so that would be a huge step for me.

My first step will be to map out all the settings...I think.

It's not really a huge step, it's only installing an app.
And when you're done enabling ADB you can either deselect it or delete it.

Just this morning I discovered that Boox devices like the Palma 2 Pro, turn power OFF if left sleeping long enough. That is why each time I tried waking the thing, I had to do a complete boot.

When I set that to 'Never ', I can wake the device like normal units do.

I also tried setting the unit to airplane mode to see what happens to the battery and I lost nearly 0 battery. Before, with all radios turned off I would lose about 20% in a couple of hours, with nothing running.

Now, when it is off airplane mode, the battery is still holding - no idea why.

So, it seems to be working OK, but I don't understand why the battery situation has improved.

None. All I have for now is One Note.

I found an old Reddit post that mentioned that Boox does this thing where it shuts down when sleeping for x amount of time.

It must be something new because I have an old 10" Boox that does not do this.

It is working now, so it must be true.

That setting is in Power > Auto Power-Off, and it says: "Start timing after sleep" I put that to 'Never' and now I can start the unit after sleep without having to reboot every time.

As for the power consumption issue - I have zero clue

Palma 2 Pro user here. Daily driving since December 2025 and no issues here.
Battery life is exceptional - 3 days when little usage. But can be drained in one day when listening audiobook over bluetooth headphones.

Since Palma ONYX has very aggressive power/app management by default I won't search problem here probably.
But you say that only thing what helps you with drain is "airplane mode". So maybe inserted SIM card? (if you have any) Since it is in reality a computer inside computer and lives from host computer's battery, it could be culprit.
Any chance you can get some prepaid new SIM and try it in Palma ? In my country you can just get prepaid SIM for free at any carrier, so this should not be hard.
If it helps, ask your primary carrier for SIM replacement for newer model.

Um, no, I don't use a SIM at all.

The reason I bought this was because it fits in a back pocket and it can take notes - that's it. I barely use it to read books, and I never use audiobooks. I think I might have five books on it.

I don't even care about the color, and in fact I wish it were NOT in color.

It seems fixed now that I disabled the power off when sleeping setting.

Boox tech support suggests I Auto Power down the device so the battery will last longer:

"Regarding the issue of the battery draining fast, we suggest setting a time for the device to auto-sleep or auto-power off."

Makes perfect sense, turn the device off and I'll save battery.

The only small pesky outcome is that I have to power on, and boot the device, every time I need to use it.

I'm feeling much less love for Boox.

Well, I'm no idiot and I didn't bought a Palma device (but the Viwoods AI Reader, the b/w version).

You could disable all the Google apps, so they won't run in the background. I do this on all my Android devices (I don't have a Google account) plus I use Airplane mode when I'm not using the internet. The loss of battery when only the screen is turned off is minimal.

You could also use an app like Hibernator (com.tafayor.hibernator) to close all apps before you turn the screen off, although the free version won't shut down system apps.

I did a factory reset, made sure WiFi and BlueTooth were off, made sure it was charged to 100%, and did nothing else to it for 24 hours, except check the battery after 24 hours.

It was at 90%

When I first got the unit, all I added was Google Keep so I could use it for lists. The battery dropped to 50% in a couple of hours. Again, WiFi and BlueTooth were both off.

The other option is that the battery is faulty. Anway that's something nobody can judge remotely via the internet.
Boox has a feedback option on their devices where you can also send some logs. Have you tried contacting them about the battery issue?
