I finally got fed up enough with trying to download 150 PDFs from a Humble Bundle to do something about it. The built-in bulk downloader never seems to work reliably for me and the other solutions I found online are out of date or also broken in some way.

So I bullied Claude.ai into helping me make a Chrome extension for downloading books and comics from a Humble Bundle. Install the extension, navigate to the Humble Bundle page in your purchases, scan for links, select what you want and hit download.

It's not available from the Chrome webstore yet but if you want to try it out it's on GitHub here: https://github.com/andrewmk/humble-bundle-downloader

Source is obviously available for the paranoid to review.

That sounds like it will be incredibly useful. I've been reduced to clicking each link one by one, then grouping the downloads by title, then comparing to the main bundle page to make sure I have all individual volumes. I'll give it a try.

I completely overlooked it. Great stuff!

OK, a couple of things:
  1. Please can the link list be sorted alphabetically. It's a pain to have to hunt for a collection when they are scattered through the list if you only want to download a selection.
  2. It's a pain to have to keep clicking the confirm download location/file name pop-up. Ideally, the first thing after selecting the files to download would be to select the download location, then all the files can be downloaded there. For a handul of files, it's tolerable, but for over 100... It means you can't leave the download to run in the background while you do other stuff.
  3. It might be worth adding support for other sites like Fanatical and StoryBundle.

Otherwise, it's great!

Did you miss this under usage?

0. I'd highly recommend in Chrome going into Settings, Downloads and turning off "Ask where to save each file before downloading" or you're going to get bored clicking
Alphabetical sorting - I like it in the order it found them in the page so you can compare the lists, but I can see how alphabetical would be useful. I expect that can be accommodated.

Other site support - if I ever use one of the other sites then I can maybe do that, but at the moment I've only used Humble Bundle.

Ah yes, found the setting and toggled it. I generally save to downloads, but there are times I want to save directly elsewhere.

Re the sort, you could have it as a toggle: order found / alphabetical.

Other sites would be useful, but I have to admit I've largely stopped buying from StoryBundle, and have purchased very little from Fanatical, so both are manageable manually.

By the way, I've posted the link on another site I post the Humble Bundle links to.

Toggle added for either page order or alphabetical order.

There's a new release to download - just unzip the files over the top of the previous ones and either remove/re-add the extension or refresh it.

I was trying to figure out far too long why Firefox gave me an error when trying to install the plugin because I didn't pay attention that it's a chrome plugin

Thanks, wasn't to know, and by searching Firefox as an extention too (Humble Bundle Downloader by Behrouze), thought it doesn't seem to do all the things described for real, also there are: https://github.com/topics/humble-bundle
*I guess humble-cli could be fine, too.

Looks like on GitHub humble-cli is the only one for downloading books etc. I must admit I was surprised it wasn't a solved problem already.

I use Firefox occasionally - I'll see if we can turn this extension into a Firefox one too.

Can you make sure it also work with MS Edge?

Here's a quick and dirty Firefox port. I've only given it the barest amount of testing but it seems to work, although the sidebar open/close behaviour is baffling me. Maybe it will make sense to someone who uses Firefox.

The rules for loading your own addons in Firefox appear to be even stricter than in Chrome. Instructions are in the included README.md.

If someone would like to try it out then go for it. If it works properly I'll put it on GitHub too.
